Everyone spends weeks envisioning the perfect Halloween costume. We use our imagination and inspiration from the latest blockbusters to craft an outfit bound to win “Best Costume” at the handful of parties we attend.
After coming out of the candy coma from Halloween, our minds tend to jump straight to cookies and milk and the jolly Saint Nicholas. Somehow, in the mix of candy and cookies, we forget one of the most important holidays: Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is such a rushed over holiday, and we tend to overlook the real meaning of the day itself. Sure, we are thankful for all the food on our plate and all the clothes hanging in our closets, but what about the family that is gathered around the table or the One who orchestrated it all?
You see, Thanksgiving isn’t just about being thankful for all the tangible stuff you have; no, it’s more than that. It is a time to cherish the friendships and family that you have been blessed with and to be humbled by the grace and mercy that has been so lovingly poured out over you.
By some means, we have also lost sight of the fact that Thanksgiving should not just be a one day celebration. Each of us should live our lives in such a way that reflects an attitude of thanksgiving, no matter the date on the calendar.
As we enter into a time of celebrating Christmas, attending get-togethers, and wrapping gifts for our friends, remember to carry an attitude of thanksgiving wherever you go. Being thankful is a daily choice, not just a once a year decision.
