To The Young Girl In Me

A letter to the younger person in me.

Dear Younger Self,

You did it, you made it to college, a great college. You got through all the years of bullying and the years of being the "odd kid." You got the chance of a lifetime to go to the school of your dreams, and yet again you have changed your mind on what you wanted to be. No longer do you want to be a forensic scientist like Abby on NCIS, but rather you now want to be an exhibitionist or a curator for a prestigious museum in the nation's capital. You grew into a pretty girl who still has those freckles and the chubby cheeks. You got almost everything you could ever want. Be glad that you read all the books that you did when you were in elementary school because they have helped when it comes to studying. The divorce that your parents went through helped you to become a stronger individual, as well as a more ambitious person. I want to thank you, younger self, for showing an interest in wanting to further our education. In so many ways have you become a stronger person and a more outgoing individual. You have a steady job, a guy who cares about you and would give you anything and puts up with the all of the random Disney facts that you say to him, an awesome dog that loves to spend time with you, and you are still best friends with your childhood best friend. You also have two godsons and a nephew. No matter what the troubles are that you have faced when we were little, you have become a better person for them and will always be that girl who will make something of herself. Today, your older self saw her first-grade teacher who couldn't believe that you were graduated and in college. To be fair, we always thought that she didn't like us, but she said that she was so proud of us and that she can't wait to hear about the amazing things that you were going to do with our life. She said that the talkative student that she remembered was no more and that you had become one of the most outgoing people in the world and that you can do anything.

Remember that you will always have the world at your feet and that you will always have your family on your side as well as God. There is always room for mistakes, decision changes, and Disney, just don't lose sight of what you truly want in life and you will always be successful. Remember to say "thank you" to the ones who helped you out along the way to realize what you wanted to do with your life. Mainly Mrs. Jowers your high school ACCESS teacher who helped you through everything in high school. Remember to always be you and don't let anyone dull your sparkle.

Sincerely,

Your older and slightly wiser self

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
