Ah, love. It's always around us and it's ever prevalent on the 14th of February. We are taught that we should show our loved ones extra love on this day. But in which way should we show them love? A movie? Flowers? Or maybe a romantic walk on the beach?
1. No waiting till the last minute
Trust me when I say that people can tell that you waited till the last minute. The flowers with missing petals or the card that you grabbed for your spouse but didn't read through because you were in a rush and it says " Happy Valentine's Day Mom!" Schedule your time wisely and go before you have scraps to choose from.
2. Yes to making it special
Now what does special mean? It means special to the person you are celebrating it with. I don't enjoy romantic dinners with chocolate or wine. I enjoy adventures to the zoo, museums, or something that excites my interests. Whatever tickles your significant other's fancy; do that. Doing something special, rather than cliche, will mean much more in the long run.
3. No assuming there are gifts or there aren't
This is really important in the fact that if one person is under the assumption that there will be no gifts while the other gets a gift it could lead to a fight. Discuss whether there should be a gift and for how much!
4. Yes to putting your phone down
Relax the political posts and don't reply to your BFF while you are spending the day with your loved one. Times are usually better when they aren't being tweeted about constantly. Your phone will be there on the 15th.
5. No to taking the day for granted
I find Valentine's Day cheesy but celebrating it with my husband really makes me thankful. Not everyone is blessed to have a loved one to celebrate with or their loved one has passed. Try to enjoy the cheesiness of Valentine's Day while you can.
I hope your Valentine's Day is filled with candy and laughing till you pee.
