Recently, the struggle most people face in continuing to strive wholeheartedly after their dreams came up in a conversation with my friends. Ironically enough, it just so happened to be the exact topic of my church’s service this Sunday: Dreaming in 2016. Every single one of us has an aspiration, dream, goal or something to strive for. For myself, I followed my heart and am living out the start of one great big dream. But that didn’t happen with just the snap of my fingers. I listened to the Lord and had faith that by following Gods path for me, He would then answer the desires of my heart.
Psalms 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” As we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will answer our prayers for the things we wish for most. Where is it that you are drawing or placing your delight today? Are you finding yourself saying, "Once some good things happen to me, Then I will be able to follow God?" We need to understand that it’s all about Jesus and fixing our eyes on Him, leaning into Him and not on your own strength in the hard times. How is it that as children, our imaginations are so vast and yet we have lived so little? This is because as we grow older, we allow the challenges and obstacles we face to crush our ability to dream. It is not a question of age or circumstances, we need to not resign from life, but resolve to have dreams.
In Ephesians, 3:20 says, “God can do anything, you know far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!” Our dreams are so small compared to the vast immensity of Gods ability to grant what He wants for us. What you want may seem far fetched, but God is able to do far more than we can ever come up with, because He is able. His abilities are far greater than our imagination allows us to reach and see, so allow yourself to dream big in 2016. When He grants us the desires of our heart we have to give all the glory and credit to God for our victories. It all revolves around the understanding of prioritizing God as first and foremost in our lives. It comes hand in hand with Him granting our dreams.
Overall we have to have the courage to dream, the ability to see the opportunities put before us and the fearlessness to pursue our dreams. We stand still thinking that our dreams are too far off, but we need to have the courage, faith, and hope to dream our dreams. We also have to lift our heads from the small things that occupy our time, open our eyes and look for the opportunities that are sometimes put right in front of us by God. God works according to our actions, so when we sit idly He can do nothing. But as we decide to walk forward, He will open doors and give us the opportunities to guide us down the path to our dreams.
Jesus will come through for you because God is faithful. It may not always go as planned, or in tune with our calendars or time frames, but He is always faithful. God has to be our constant. There are no guarantees in this life. Even though we may not know all the details of the journey, we just have to step out into the unknown with our unwavering faith. It may not happen today or tomorrow, but it will come true. So make it your mission this year to dig deep and dream big.
