"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is a classic 80s movie we all know and love. We remember how funny Matthew Broderick is throughout the entire movie and we all wish we could be as cool as Ferris Bueller. He does not let anything stand in his way, and he is utterly fearless. He, like the character of Zack Morris on "Saved By The Bell", hates school and probably has less than perfect grades. However, they both show with their cunning wits and undeniable charm that they will outsmart the principal every single time. They lack effort and appear "lazy" when it comes to their school work but it takes a lot of effort to be that devious and get away with their lies. Underneath the obvious humor throughout the whole movie, there is a lot more to be said that can be applied to the year of 2016:
1. The idea of privilege: "It's on European socialism. I mean, really, what's the point? I'm not European. I don't plan on being European. So, who gives a crap if they're socialists? They could be fascist anarchists. It still wouldn't change the fact that I don't own a car."
This perfectly describes privilege in America. One way to understand the idea of "privilege" is "Privilege is when you think something is not a problem because it's not a problem to you personally." Just as Ferris does not care a hoot about Europe because he thinks it does not apply to him since he does not live there. Proximity has no bearing on the problems and injustices citizens of the world face. As MLK Jr. always said "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

It has been quite a year, and I am absolutely ready for and looking forward to 2017. Even thought it is my graduation tear. *shedding tears*
