Can you remember what it was like to be a child? When you look back, you see those years as happy memories. You are reminded of all of the fairies that you would chase and catch around the garden, all of the villains you killed as you were the strongest superhero of all time, and the time that you walked across the Atlantic ocean to save your dog. Your imagination made the world seem incredible. As a preschool teacher, I have seen how special it is to watch children interact with the world around them. It is so fascinating to watch. But, why does it stop as we grow up? Why do we begin just to start watching? Why don’t we join in? We should! Here are eight reasons as to why you should view the world through a child’s eyes.
1. To see everyone as being special.
Children just have this instant admiration in their eyes when they look at you. Their eyes sparkle. They see everybody through their innocent eyes and see them as special, and that’s exactly what we all are it’s just that our lenses are too dirty and we can no longer see reality as clearly as children do.
2. You don’t care what other people think.
Let’s be real – this is the best part of being a kid. Getting dressed in a crazy, mismatched outfit simply because that’s just what you want to wear. My personal favorite, the neon striped shirt with polka dot bottoms with the plastic princess shoes. When kids wear these outfits that they pick out themselves, they wear them proud and make sure that everyone notices! Just imagine if adults were like this. Imagine how you would feel if you didn’t care what people thought about you? It would make life a lot easier.
3. To dream big
Some children have the craziest and in depth dreams for themselves. Some want to be a princess, a teacher, a doctor, and a Mom all at the same time when they grow up, and they are so determined to do so. Others dream of being a superhero and saving the whole world and they will tell you that until they know that you believe it yourself.
4. How to forgive.
Children get upset all the time. However, they don’t dwell on what made them sad. They get upset and literally after a hug they forget about it. They forgive and forget so quickly.
5. To love unconditionally.
If only we all as adults could Learn to give without expecting anything in return, for that is what real and unconditional love is all about, and that is what children can teach you. There is so much in our lives that do things for us without expecting anything in return. For example, the moon lights up the night every night without expecting us to do anything for it. It just offers itself to us and creates a beautiful evening.
6. Not worry about tomorrow.
As adults in today’s society, we spend so much time worrying about the past and the future and not focusing on the present. Children do live in the moment. They aren’t worried about what is going to happen at school tomorrow or what happened the day before. Every day is a new day, and they are happy about it.
7. Your imagination is limitless.
As you grow up, you begin to learn and experience so many things. However, that tends to dampen your imagination. It makes it a lot harder to picture yourself having a tea party on the clouds, and riding in a princess buggy to a ball at the ice castle because you know that it just isn’t possible. Kids don’t have this problem. Kids’ imaginations are limitless. They don’t care what’s real and what could happen because they want it to, so in their mind, it just does.
8. Everyone is a possible friend.
How many times have you gone throughout your daily errands hoping that you could get in and out without having to make conversation with a stranger or honestly anybody? Children, however, are always wanting to talk. They want to smile and make friends and learn people’s names and what they do and why. Think about how different it would be if adults were to embrace this mindset when running errands, meeting new people, and more.
