5 Things You Can Do in the Snow

60
The Wonders of Winter
Mark T. Hardy II

For those of you that are cooped up inside during this crazy snowstorm, first of all; what's wrong with y'all? This is the moment we've been waiting for, isn't it? We finally got snow, and a ton of it too! Not only that, but so much that even schools are shutting down during the week. Why on Earth would any of you NOT want to go out and frolic in this oh-so-very-convenient winter wonderland?

If you guys couldn't tell by now, I absolutely LOVE the snow. There's just something about it that just draws me to it, turning me into a little kid again. It's so light and soft, pure and the best when in a bundle. Maybe that's why I like it so much. It's everything I'm not! Anyway, I'm sure all of you that don't like the snow are just chilling out in your houses, sipping tea or hot cocoa, jamming to music, playing some video games, writing, or, my personal favorite, binge-watching shows and movies on Netflix. And while there's nothing inherently wrong about any of these things--I do these too sometimes once I've had my fill of the snow--I just feel that there are so many better things that can be done outside. Here are a few.

1. All Out War

You guys already know what I mean by this. Grab your friends, drag them out of their houses if you have to, mold forts that are as stable as humanly possible and then unleash your frozen weapons of mass destruction on one another in the largest snowball fight any of you have ever taken part of. Relish the sight of your closest friends being pelted in the face by flurries of solid snow, and brought down by your hand. Have a war that will leave its mark on history, have a war that will ensure that you're remembered.

2. Hills of Death

There are two known dangers about sledding. The first is that there really isn't much one can do to keep their sled controlled, and the second, going off of that, is that you'll never know where you're going to wind up. But who cares about danger when you're having fun, right? Go up the biggest hill you can find and slide on down it at maximum speed! Sure, you might end up losing all control of the sled once you've reached a certain speed, and there's also a chance that you'll wind up crashing head-first into someone's mailbox, but none of that matters as long as you can still stand up and run away as fast as you can in the opposite direction.

3. Duel of Fates

For those of you that understood this title's reference early, you have my appreciation and respect. Yes, it's exactly how it sounds. If any of you have lightsabers in your possession--the legit ones, or just ones that glow--my advice would be to go out and bludgeon one another with them like there's no tomorrow! I'm sure that I don't need to tell y'all this, but it's better to have this sort of epic duel at night. That way, the sabers will be at their brightest and the duel will seem more legitimate.

4. Frolic

Have you ever just gotten a feeling, or urge, to run around in the snow, frolicking majestically like a faun out of Narnia? Yeah, me too. You never know how long snow will last before becoming either that disgusting black slushy stuff or the worst kind of ice imaginable, so enjoy it while you can. I wouldn't recommend doing this kind of thing around strangers, though. That might cause some unwanted tension...or a fight. But if it's with a friend, sure! They're already used to your random and, at times, incredibly questionable behavior, so I'm almost fifty percent sure that they would not only be cool with it, they'd start frolicking as well! Doesn't matter where you do it, either--on a hill, a huge mound of snow, or simply around a snowy bush--but if you feel that you need to, it'd be for the best if you went with what your gut is telling you.

5. Date Night

There's nothing like going out on a lovely date in the snow. The way the moon sets over the snow, illuminating it just enough to show all of the glittering crystals within it, the way they all reflect off your date's eyes...

Oh yeah, it's absolutely perfect! Just make sure you're dressed appropriately for the occasion. Last thing we need is someone getting sick and potentially ruining the moment!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
