This is to the wild girls. The girls who defy the stereotypes. The girls who don’t always fit society's definition of normal or right or controlled. These are the girls that dare to be different.
The wild girls who would rather have their nails painted in the dirt than painted in pink.
The wild girls who don’t bother with a pedicure because their feet are too rough and calloused and they want them that way. It would be a shame to break down years of hard work.
The wild girls who have hair so tangled and free that not even the bravest of combs could tame it.
The wild girls who have tan lines and laugh lines and worry lines alike but they like them because it shows where they’ve been.
The wild girls who keep their chins raised high in the faces of those who tell them they need to change.
The wild girls who have the fire in their eyes and spit in their words.
The wild girls who love as fiercely as they fight.
The wild girls who dare to dream.
The wild girls who are strong.
The wild girls who are brave.
The wild girls who can square their shoulders and look fear in the eye.
The wild girls who sink their toes deep into the earth with their eyes focused on the horizon.
The wild girls who know the beauty of nature and the hardship of mankind.
The wild girls who know that there is more than social media. More than their cell phones.
We live in a world where being vain and vapid are traits to be cherished and nurtured. We should value honesty and courage. We should value truth to oneself and to others.
Every girl, every woman, every person has the potential to be these things. To be wild. But it doesn’t just happen. It requires effort. It requires heart. It requires a willingness to stop. To listen. To be still. And maybe a little bit of cojones.
So stand a little taller. Laugh a little harder. Look up from your phone. Engage your eyes in the sights around. Go for a walk and listen to the wind move the leaves, smell the earth on which you tread, and feel the air brush past your shoulders. Take a moment. Take a breath. Learn to be wild.
Learn to be a wild girl. Look for kindred spirits. We’re here. And just know that everyone has a bit of wild in them.
