When people think of a great TV show, they think of a show that has great characters, great drama, a great storyline, a plot that makes sense, a plot that strengthens the longer the show goes on; many different things like that. However, it seems like a lot of shows today aren't able to keep the audience invested because they just seem to be poorly done. Without these elements (and many other elements that aren't mentioned), most shows end up failing, losing audience members and ratings. "The Walking Dead" is a show that has all of the elements a show needs to be great! What makes it a great show exactly?
"The Walking Dead" has amazing characters played by a lot of amazing actors and actresses. Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) is the story's main protagonist who started off in a coma when the zombie apocalypse started up. The show follows him and his crew as they try to fight for their survival in this post-apocalyptic world. With a lot of other amazing characters like Carl Grimes (played by Chandler Riggs), Carol Pelletier (played by Melissa McBride), Glenn Rhee (played by Steven Yeun), Michonne (played by Danai Gurira), the fan favorite Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus), and many others (old, on the show still, and new) the show has a lot to offer in just their characters.
Another great thing about the show is the fact that they are willing to take the time to give all the characters a back story. Each person gets episodes of their own so that the character is strengthened in some way. This is one of the few shows that is willing to give characters a deeper plot and actually make the audience become invested in that them a lot more. Characters the audience might hate at one moment might become one of their new favorite characters the next moment all because of a back story. Viewers get to see or something the character might do to make the audience like the character more. This happens a lot in the show, and it happens at the right time to make plenty of sense and not end up confusing the audience.
Another thing that makes "The Walking Dead" one of the greatest shows on TV is the fact that they have a strong story that just seems to get better and better. They are able to take one season of the show and make the audience enjoy it so much that they are willing to watch up until the next season. Sooner or later, a show might get boring to watch after it gets to a certain season so that most people would think the show would lose its popularity. "The Walking Dead" is a show that always finds a way to make the next season seem bigger and a lot more intense than the last season. With amazing action, drama, horror, heartfelt moments, character development and a strengthening story line, "The Walking Dead" just seems to get better and better.
With a show like "The Walking Dead" on TV, it's understandable why so many people love the show and why the ratings are so high. They are able to do something most shows aren't able to do, and they are able to keep that up while upping their level a little more every season. With the show in its sixth season right now (and season seven already confirmed), it's obvious the show won't be done anytime soon. If more shows were to following "The Walking Dead," maybe more shows would be a lot more successful. However, "The Walking Dead" will still be one of the best shows on TV, even when it's over and done with.
