They lie to us, they distract us from the important things, they manipulate us, they take advantage of us and they shut us down. They do that to us. Us, the generation that will be running the economy in five-to-10 years. Us, a generation that has seen first hands the advantages and disadvantages of globalization. Us, who have been forced in to a society and an economy that has been ruined. Ruined by them, the world leaders, our representatives, our elders.
As I write this article history books are being written. As I write this article the UK is experiencing one of the biggest changes in history, they are leaving the European Union with a majority vote of 52 percent. As I write this article, 52 percent of the British people may or may not have tanked the world economy because they don’t like southern europeans and wanted to save a few bucks. However, polls are saying something different. Polls are saying that 75 percent of the British youth was against leaving the EU.
Which means that 75 percent of young adults between the ages of 18 to 24 are now obligated to lead a country that was ruined for them. In just as soon as three years this British young adults will be left to fix the economic problem and national crisis that they didn't even create! But they have to deal with it because that is what the "adults" want.
However, we needn't go so geographically far. In the U.S., polls show that presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has more voters than Clinton and Trump combined, among young voters. Yet, it looks like according to the media Trump and Clinton are the only relevant candidates. I have known walking into a college classroom where every single student was a Sanders supporter. I am not saying that all young Americans support Sanders, but the majority certainly does! So why is Sanders so behind in the race? Why do they shut down the voice of so many young people across the globe?
They say that young people are ignorant, irresponsible, that we don't know what we are talking about, except that we do, at least most of us! We have the ability to understand social, political and economic issues just as well as the next person.
I believe that our generation is being shut down by older people who think that they are always right and we are always wrong. However, the truth is that our generation is the most informed generation ever seen! I mean we have a thousand ways to get our information from, internet being the main one. Therefore, we do know what we are talking about. Which is why our opinions should be taken in to consideration or given priority, after all we will be the leaders of this worlds in only a few years.
