1. When someone leaves their wall locker unlocked

Nobody liked walking up into the bays to see that it had been trashed because some idiot left their wall locker open... again.

2. When it starts raining during a ruck march

This happened on more occasions than I'm okay with remembering.

3. When a Drill Sergeant asks you why you did something

I feel like this one needs a little bit of explanation. We had a drill sergeant who would make us do push-ups and ask why we were doing our own thing, and we would always respond with "Because, Drill Sergeant, I do what I want."

4. When you meet someone who has already finished Basic Training

Gotta say, I was always jealous of those AIT guys.

5. When someone says something stupid in class

More than once we had someone ask a Drill Sergeant a stupid question, or someone is a smart ass about something the drill sergeant was talking about — it never ended well for us.

6. That one time at Omaha Beach...

If you look closely at my boots I wore to Buddy Team Live Fire, you'll probably still be able to see the caked on mud that will probably never come off.

7. That time someone asked the Drill Sergeant if they could take a nap

You would think after we were told NOT to sleep, he wouldn't have asked.

8. When you find that one person you don't hate

For me, she didn't come in till nearly half way through basic training, but she made it bearable.

9. When they decide to have PT outside when it's raining

Even our Ability Group DS thought it was insane.

10. When your drill sergeant asks why you have 'that look' on your face

Apparently I just have this face where people think there is something wrong or that I want to kill someone. 9/10 times, they're probably right, but I'll just continue to quietly hate them.

11. When the Drill Sergeant says "You can go upstairs early"

ITS A TRAP — I REPEAT, ITS A TRAP.

12. When it's finally over

You're lying if you say you didn't shed a tear when you stepped foot on that graduation field.
