I am a product of the this generation, and I can say that I am not always pleased. I will admit, my age group is far from perfect. However, I have noticed for sometime now that the younger age group (11-16-year-olds) are the ones that are most disappointing. This listicle is for y'all....The ones that need some guidance in ways that should be an automatic response. Things should be done on a day to day basis.
(Please understand that these are simply my opinions, and I am sorry in advance if I offend anyone.)
1. If you are sitting in a seat, and a relatively older person is standing; You need to get up, and let them sit.
It is the courteous and well mannered thing to do. Your bones are young enough to stand up.
2. You say "Please, and Thank You."
No, it's not a "southern thang," it's a RESPECT thing.
3. Young Men: HOLD THE DOOR OPEN FOR WOMEN.
Whether it be your girlfriend or a lady that you don't know – chivalry isn't something that was suppose to die in the 60s.
4. Young Ladies: COVER YOURSELF UP!
I understand that you think these young guys want to see your shape and all of what you got... and they probably do. However, the image you are setting for yourself is a poor one. You live in a world where first impressions are everything. You don't even have to open your mouth, they look at you and know all what they need to know. No matter how free spirited you are, the simple fact is; if you fall into an unpleasing stereotypical category, your peers and elders will keep you in that category. It's not just about respect for yourself, but also about self worth. Know your worth ladies, don't sell yourself short.
5. Watch your language.
I swear, y'all get out of sight from your parents and a cuss bomb goes off. Every other word is "F this and F that." Would you speak to your mother that way? Also, understand that when you are speaking in the vulgar way that you are; the adults around you are thinking the worst possible thing about your parents. Meanwhile your parents could be the best parents in the world, and they just have a disrespectful child that likes to show off.
6. Social Media is a trap!
DO NOT let it consume your life. Not everything you see on Facebook or Twitter is true. Also, your social media isn't your personal diary for the world. Not everyone needs to know about your business. Solve your problems with the people that are involved.
Maybe some of these things go for people in my age range as well. I just feel hopeless when I see what is becoming of the new generation. Parents can't be blamed for everything.
