Spring break is one of the most popular times a college student can escape from the stress of school. The second semester is almost over, the stress is beginning to build and build as midterms begin to arise and finals approach not long after, so one week off is a blessing to many. As a first year freshman, my ultimate goal for a great spring break is the typical movie scene kind. But for now, my spring break will consist of a lot of sleep, a lot of eating, and hanging out with friends.
As I begin to think about all of my spring break activities however, I can't help but realize that there won't be too much school time left once I get back. Before I know it, finals will be here and so will move out day. When I think about moving out, of course I'm excited because what a relief that summer is almost here, right? But then I consider how much stuff I will be moving out of my room. That is why I have come up with the ultimate packing guide to a perfect spring break (and a future perfect move out day).
Winter will hopefully be over by the time you get back from spring break so this is the perfect opportunity to pack up a good majority of your winter clothes. Of course, keep in mind there will be cold days here and there, and in my case, New Jersey weather has been crazy, so maybe keep a few things for some potential snow behind. Other than that you should have a suitcase solely dedicated to winter clothes that you will be bringing home to leave at home. This also goes for any boots you have. You can keep a few behind, but consider the warm weather you will most likely begin to have.
The next thing to consider packing up is anything you don't use. In my case, this means I should pack up my kitchen stuff (as I do not have a kitchen in my dorm room) and don't plan on using the small kitchenette provided in one of the lounges. Take whatever you know you have not touched all year and just bring it home. No use in taking up a bunch of space with stuff you have never used.
Another great tip is to pack up anything extra. I went a little crazy this year and have boxes and boxes of tissues and basically anything essential I need, but to the point where I would never run out. This is a really good idea starting at the beginning of the year, but as the semester continues and spring break ends, you're not going to need 10 more tissues boxes unless you get caught with some bizarre spring illness. Save yourself the packing stress at the end of the year and send it home early.
You don't know how much space and stress you have saved yourself by bringing all of those things home with you for spring break. It will make for a very easy move out day. Of course, don't forget to also pack up things you will need and use over that week. Get packing, and pack smart!
