Dear Guys,
I beg you to think twice before you send a direct message (DM) to a female. First of all, we already have a certain weirded-out look on our face when we see a notification, especially if it’s from somebody we don’t know.
There are a few reasons why guys “slide into your DMs.” One might use DMs in order to request sex, dates, flirting, or smack talking. Most of the time, it’s easy for guys to say whatever they please in a DM because they are hidden by a computer screen, or they don’t know who you are, so it doesn’t matter.
Below, I have classified the types of guys that you may have encountered in your own DMs.
DM #1. The “Approval” Selfie Guy
This DM usually comes from a guy who is insecure and looking for approval, or maybe trying to flex. Newsflash: this is typically not the way to get a girl's attention. Most of the time we laugh about the fact that you sent us a picture and then show all of our friends how weird your DM is.
DM #2. The Compliment Guy
This DM can be taken in two ways. The first reaction is that this guy is just trying to be nice and just wants to give you a compliment, and that’s the end of the conversation. The second is that this guy is trying to be a creep and get my number. Another thought is usually who the f*** is this guy and why is he DMing me?
DM#3. The Creepy Guy
Sometimes there are people in the world who are flat out creeps: the ones that will grow up and not be able to live less than 500 feet from a school. The guy every one is talking about when they say, “don’t be that guy.” This guy is clearly willing to engage in sexual activity with a random girl from the Internet.
DM #4. The Stalker Guy
This guy usually knows your face but not really anything else about you. This guy has put in the extra effort to find you on social media and ask if you were at Wal-Mart because he thinks he saw someone that looked like you.
DM #5. The Message Guy
This guy usually has messaged you about 750 times and you have yet to reply but he still continues to message you and ask how you are or say what’s up. This guy doesn’t understand seem to guy that he is being ignored. In fact, he might even mention that he knows your ignoring him but he’s okay with it.
These guys are the typical direct messagers that females may come in contact with. Sometimes, I feel bad for the guys and think to myself, "Do they really think that a girl would answer to a message like that?" Then sometimes, the messages are too much to handle and I need to share the weirdest ones with my friends in our group chat because it’s hysterical. Either way, I thank the guys who make me laugh by your unsolicited messages, sometimes they are quite entertaining.
