It's that time of the year again: the holiday season! College finals are over, winter break has started, and the annual family reunions approach. We all have our unique families and different customs and traditions, but one thing is similar for all: our family members are what make the reunions interesting. Whether it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any holiday you are celebrating, we all have the same types of family members which include...
1. Crazy uncle. The one who will sneak you a cocktail when mom’s not looking, or crack a joke about the family to lighten the mood.
2. Super smart cousin. The one that makes everyone else look bad. They go on and on about their achievements and will always make you realize what you have to live up to.
3. Judgmental aunt. The one who always asks how you are doing in school/ if you have a significant other/ what you are going to do when you graduate. You can't avoid these questions and you start to sweat as each one pops up.
4. Overprotective grandma. The one that yells at you for not having enough vegetables on your plate or for not dressing warm enough.
5. The politically inclined uncle. The one who can’t help but spark a debate about what’s going on in the world. We all know family gatherings are the perfect time for it.
6. The outsider. The friend of a cousin, or new girlfriend/boyfriend of an aunt or uncle that is roped into coming to the party - the one that you are nervous for when they show up because you don’t know if they’ll fit in with your crazy family.
7. The over-grateful aunt. The one who constantly reminds everyone how thankful we should all be about what we have.
8. The people that make you smile. At the end of the day, no matter how crazy your family members are, you all make up one big happy family and you couldn’t live without them.
