The Truth Behind Small Town Living
Wikipedia

Being from a small town in Kansas means I get asked a lot of Wizard of Oz questions and people like to make jokes as well. But whether you come from a well known town or a town in the middle of nowhere there is always something small town people have in common and know all to well about living in a small town.

1. Everyone Knows Everyone

Whether your parent is a teacher at a school or owns a small shop everyone knows everyone. Even if you don't want them to. With my father owning our towns furniture store and my mom being a teacher in the middle school everyone knows me and my family. That is a good thing because i get to know the town ad who is in it. If I were to get into trouble my family would know from the grape vine. So in short everyone knows everyone.

2. Football, School, Religion

The Holy Trinity of any small town is Football, School and Religion. With nothing much else to do you make due with what you have and that consists of these. And with the town being so small this is the talk of the town no matter the season.

3. You Can Get Anywhere In 5 Minutes

If you are like me then you hate heavy traffic, or any traffic for that matter, so growing up in a small town you learn how to get around town in less that 5 minutes while only hitting one stop sign. And don't sweat it, if anything else is added to the town it's always on the outskirts.

4. The Nearest Mall Or Walmart Is An Hour Away

Being in a small town does have its disadvantages, with a tiny population you don't get the luxury of having a mall or a Walmart as the population isn't enough to sustain it. So I hope you got enough groceries to last you a week until you go back to the store.

5. Most Towns Have A Curfew

In my town we have a curfew of midnight, if you live in a small town and don't have a curfew count yourself lucky. But this can be a blessing in disguise, it can mean that you don't have a high chance of getting into trouble. Especially if you never leave your house!

6. Your Coach Is Also Your Teacher And Neighbor

If you are an athlete then you know that your coach can range from being your teacher, bus driver, and even your neighbor. And if you didn't like them then you were plum outta luck, but there's always that replacement when your coach retires.

7. You Graduate With Childhood Friends

Have you ever met someone and instantly didn't or did like them? Well if you come from a small town unless you move away then you don't have a choice but to grow up with your diaper mates and learn everything about them. Whether you wanted to or not.

8. Fairs And Rodeos Are Huge

Aww the fair, the smell of the animals and all that greasy food what more could you ask for? Coming from a small town these types of events are huge, even people from out of town come to them.

9. You Wouldn't Trade It For Any Big City

Even though small towns have its downsides you love where you lived because it made you into who you are today. And know what, even though I don't know you I think you are pretty awesome!

10. You Are Proud Of Where You Came From

Whether or not you come from a small town, a huge city or a major metropolis we can all say that we are proud of where we came from. Sure half of us wouldn't move back there if you got paid but you will admit that most of your greatest moments happened in that town that you called home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
