The Top 10 Albums Of 2015

When it comes to the premiere of new music in a certain year, some years in music are monumentally good, while others just fade away from the radio listener's memory. Thankfully, due to some very hyped comebacks and breakthrough artists, 2015 definitely did not disappoint when it came to album releases. With more unique artists bursting through and other critical darlings coming back after hiatuses, the albums we got were not half bad. And while some were lackluster at best, others really broke through in terms of sales and critical acclaim. Though I have to admit, this list was pretty difficult to compile, here's My official tally for the Top Ten Best Albums of 2015!

*DISCLAIMER: I decided not to add debut albums, seeing as I already made a list for that and wanted to make an even playing field for other albums from this year to be recognized, so if you're looking for albums like Halsey's "Badlands" or James Bay's "Chaos and the Calm" you can check out my list of the Top 5 Debut Albums here.

10. Death Cab For Cutie, "Kintsugi" (Atlantic Records)

Favorite Tracks: "The Ghost of Beverly Drive," "Black Sun," "Ingenue," "You've Haunted Me All My Life"

As a band that has kept their indie cult following for almost 20 years, Death Cab For Cutie's latest LP surprised many fans for just how different it sounded and how far away the band seems to want to branch out from their other, more famous work. A more naked and acoustic album, the album shows that for being in the business for so long, the band is aging fairly gracefully. Yet even though this album's theme is intriguing, the performances are good and the album as a whole is just fine, the truth of the matter is that compared to their other, more beloved albums such as "Plans" and "Transatlanticism," "Kintsugi" isn't the Portland band's best, and one that would probably fade in the background in comparison to their other works.

9. Marina and the Diamonds, "Froot" (Neon Gold Records/Atlantic Records)

Favorite Tracks: "Froot," "Happy," "Can't Pin Me Down," "Blue"

Ever since the release of her sophomore album "Electra Heart" in 2012, Marina and the Diamonds (aka Marina Diamandis) has created a huge cult following for her stunning vocal range and her retro-style of pop music. Thankfully, this retro sound continues in "Froot" a somewhat-theatrical bubblegum pop homage to the funky beats of the 70's while still sounding very modern and radio friendly. Even though sometimes the electric beats can tend to distract listeners from everything else in the song or album, Marina's voice completely steals the show, especially when her rich alto vocals are paired with emotional lyrics in songs like "Forget" and "Happy" that talk about moving on from the past and learning from hard feelings and lost love, which in my opinion, are songs that are FAR more relatable and stay with you much longer than Adele's "Hello," a sappy song about wanting your ex back, could ever be.

8. Ellie Goulding, "Delirium" (Polydor Records)

Favorite Tracks: "Aftertaste,' "Something in the Way You Move," "Holding on for Life," "Heal"

Unlike her past hit-making albums, Ellie Goulding takes quite a few risks in her songs on Delirium. Thankfully for her sake, these daring risks really seem to pay off, even if some of her more heartfelt lyrics from her previous songs are absent. To me, "Delirium" is an great example of a radio-friendly pop album done right, where it is poppy enough to reach radio stations, but still unique enough to be memorable for years to come.

7. The Neighborhood, "Wiped Out!" (Columbia Records)

Favorite Tracks: "R.I.P. 2 My Youth," "Wiped Out!," "Greetings from Califournia," "Baby Came Home 2/ Valentines"

Instead of staying in the Indie Alternative genre that helped catapult their debut album I Love You. to the top of the charts back in 2013, The Neighborhood seem to derive a wonderful mixture of multiple genres, from The Cure to The Beach Boys, from Summer pop to hip-hop. "Wiped Out!" is a great sophomore album in that while it shows the artistic growth of the band, they still have that same sex appeal and air of mystery that attracted listeners to them from the beginning. With two great albums under their belt, I can only see The Neighborhood growing and growing as time goes on.

6. BIG BANG, "MADE" (YG Entertainment)

Favorite Tracks: "Loser," "Sober," "Bang Bang Bang," "If You"

For anyone who has every been curious about the international music phenomenon that is K-Pop, Big Bang is the perfect band to start out with and "MADE" makes a fantastic first album to buy if you're interested in Korean Pop. While most Korean boy bands also have the same hip-hop and dubstep sounds accompanied by eccentric music videos and choreography, what makes Big Bang stand out from the rest in terms of international appeal is the talent acquired by all five of the members and just how well they work off one another. The songs on "MADE" also prove to be successful for the band in that you can see each of the strange and unique quirks of the the members stick out (especially in some of the music videos for the album), showing how important it is for seemingly cookie-cutter K-Pop bands to be able to stand out form the rest and let their personalities take center stage and blend with their hit-making songs.

5. Metric, "Pagans in Vegas" (Metric Music International/ Universal Music Group)

Favorite Tracks: "The Shade," "Cascades," "For Kicks," "The Governess"

With a long history in indie-land, Metric's latest album "Pagans In Vegas" is the perfect opportunity for the band to cross over into the main stream music scene. A Mix between modern electronica and Alternative Rock, "Pagans in Vegas" is a modernized '80s experimental pop record that is very reminiscent of Indie-Pop-Rock bands from the mid 2000's like The Yeah Yeah Yeah's. It is a very lively and energetic album that is a fantastic example of the upbeat Canadian music scene.

4. Puscifer, "Money Shot" (Puscifer Entertainment)

Favorite Tracks: "Life of Brian (Apparently You Haven't Seen)," "The Remedy," "Agostina," "Smoke and Mirrors"

Though the band Puscifer, lead by Maynard James Keenan who is known as one of the most prolific and eccentric rock vocalists of all time, is mainly known under their persona as a crude and outlandish comedy band, they may one of the better of the Prog-Rock bands of the 21st century and "Money Shot" is hands down the best Hard Prog Rock album of the years. A great mix of storytelling monologues, Psychedelic electronica and Dark hard rock, Puscifer's sixth album proves to be one of their very best through their updated theatrics and a lovely mix of vocals between Keenan and fellow vocalist Carina Round. I would highly recommend Money Shot to any Rock or Metal listerners as well as fans of Keenan's other bands like TOOL and A Perfect Circle since this album also includes some of Maynard's best vocal performances of recent memory.

3. Florence + The Machine, "How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful" (Island Records/Republic Records)

Favorite Tracks: "What Kind of Man," "St. Jude," "Mother," "Which Witch"

After her rise to the A-List with her 2010 smash single "The Dog Days Are Over", I had figured that Florence + The Machine would either be remembered as a one-hit wonder who deserved more in the music scene or another eccentric artist whose larger than life vocals or personality overshadow their musical ability. Thankfully, I was very wrong, since Florence Welch's latest album is has far exceed expectation. Of course, Florence does a wonderful job in terms of vocal performance, but the album also works from a more etheral stand point, with Florence and her backup band working together wonderfully. "How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful" is a much darker and eccentric album than Florence's previous work, but it also has more of a rock edge to it in combination with the dark spiritualist theme of the album. Florence + The Machine may never have another hit as explosively successful as "Dog Days," but if that means having albums that are this critically intriguing, that's fine by me.

2. CHVRCHES, "Every Open Eye" (Virgin/Glassnote Entertainment Group)

Favorite Tracks: "Bury It," "Afterglow," High Enough To Carry You Over," "Playing Dead"

Something that can be said about "Every Open Eye," even though it doesn;t sound like your regular 2010's electronica album due to the over-stimulation of Dubstep, CHVRCHES sophomore album is one that I believe every fan of the genre would love. The vocal performances of Lauren Mayberry and Martin Doherty are flawless against the 80's beats that work as the overall theme of the album. In order to fully understand how great this album is, you need to listen to the entire album, seeing as just hearing one song on the radio doesn't let the listener have the full experience of how regal and larger than life these songs are and just how amazing this band is. In my opinion, CHVRCHES is one of the best and most underrated electronica bands in music, and "Every Open Eye" is one of the best reasons why.

1. Grimes, "Art Angels" (4AD)

Favorite Tracks: "World Princess, Pt. II," "Flesh without Blood," "Butterfly," "REALiTi"

If CHVRCHES is one of the most underrated electronica bands in music right now, then Grimes is one of the most underrated artists in music PERIOD. What Grimes (aka Claire Boucher) is a brand new sound that needs to heard in order to be appreciated for its genius. Art Angels marks Grimes' debut into the mainstream music scene after her domination of the indie-pop scene, and unlike many other artists, whose selling out to the mainstream music scene ruins their music according to their original fans, "Art Angels" documents a beautiful growth of Grimes's musical talents and inspirations and is hands-down her best album to date. With beautiful poetic lyrics combined with Boucher's pixie high voice and a New Age Pop flair, "Art Angels" stands out as an album that could potentially create a whole new genre of music. It is one of those albums that does the impossible feat of being extremely Experimental, but still radio friendly, which is something that has not been explored by mainstream music in years. I think that not only will Grimes be around for a long time, but she will inspire newer artists musically and bring forth a new, much more experimental age in music.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
