This Saturday, Mumford and Sons will be playing at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, a show which I will be attending. I have always liked their music, but before deciding to get tickets to this show, I hadn’t dived much into their music beside the songs that play on the radio. However, to prepare for this concert, my Spotify playlist has been almost exclusively Mumford and Sons since Christmas. In listening to their three albums, I have noticed that while their songs are very deep and use a lot of poetic language, they also write lyrics that would make excellent subtweets for just about anyone. Because of that, in honor of the concert being this weekend, I decided to highlight my favorite Mumford and Sons songs and the lyrics in them that are the most subtweet-worthy.
1. “Little Lion Man”
Album: "Sigh No More""
Lyric: "I really messed it up this time, didn’t I my dear?"
This lyric is perfect for when you, well, messed up. You can also use the unedited lyric if you’re feeling really guilty about something you did wrong.
2. “Awake My Soul”
Album: "Sigh No More"
Lyric: "How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes/I struggle to find any truth in your lies"
This lyric is for when someone else really messed up and you’re feeling like an idiot for ever believing them.
3. “I Will Wait”
Album: "Babel"
Lyric: "I will wait, I will wait for you"
This lyric is from one of the most popular songs - and for good reason. This is perfect for when you’re missing your long-distance bae and are counting down the days until you can be in the same place again.
4. “Ghosts That We Knew"
Album: "Babel"
Lyric: "But I will hold you as long as you like/Just promise me we’ll be alright"
This lyric is perfect for when you hit a rocky point in your relationship and want to work to make it stay together.
5. “Hopeless Wanderer”
Album: "Babel"
Lyric: "So hold me fast, hold me fast/Cause I’m a hopeless wanderer"
This lyric is perfect for when you meet someone who wants you to settle down and make a commitment, but you aren’t ready to take that step in your life yet.
*PS: If you don’t do anything else from this article, please watch this music video. You will not be disappointed.*
6. “Tompkins Square Park”
Album: "Wilder Mind"
Lyric: "But no flame burns forever, oh no/You and I both know this all too well"
This lyric is perfect for when your most recent fling is starting to fizzle out and you want to end it gently but aren’t sure what to say.
7. “Believe”
Album: "Wilder Mind"
Lyric: "Say something, say something/Something like you love me"
This lyric is perfect for when you just want the guy or girl you’ve been in love with since the first day of the semester to tell you they feel the same way.
8. “Monster”
Album: "Wilder Mind"
Lyric: "So we come/To a place of no return/Yours is the face which makes my body burn"
This lyric is perfect when you’re with someone who you are really attracted to, but you can’t seem to find any common ground beyond that and you know it’s best to end things.
9. “Snake Eyes"
Album: "Wilder Mind"
Lyric: "It’s in the eyes/I can tell you will always be danger"
This lyric is perfect for when you are going through your bad girl/boy phase and you like this person, but you know they’re bad for you and ultimately not worth your time.
10. “Only Love”
Album: "Wilder Mind"
Lyric: "And you saw me low/Alone again/Didn’t they say that only love would win in the end?"
This lyric is perfect for when you are going through a rough time with relationships in general and are trying not to be too pessimistic about your situation, but sometimes you just can’t help it.
If you spend an hour or so listening to these songs, I have no doubt you will not only be a total Mumford and Sons fan, but you’ll also have a ton of new lyrics at your disposal for when you need to subtweet you heart out.
