The lull of Sunday after syllabus week has swept the Wake Campus. The previous 7 days of being reunited with the crew has been exciting but certainly exhausting.
Luckily it is a long weekend. This gives students an additional 24 hours to get their lives together and process the fact that essays, tests, and readings are slowly becoming our reality once again. The month off gave us plenty of time to be couch potatoes and goof around. However, it is time to resume those weekday routines.
The transition from winter break to syllabus week to reality isn’t a smooth one. Fortunately everyone is in the same boat. Those 9 AM classes seem unbearable to sit through. However, second semester at Wake means spring is in the near future. But first, we need to make it through winter. Fingers crossed that we are awarded some extra days off with the assistance of white flurries and frozen roads. On the bright side, spring break is a short 8 weeks away.
Upon arriving on campus after the winter holidays, I overheard a conversation people were having passing the Pit. The group of girls were laughing and saying that although they enjoyed being with their families and friends at home for the month, they were excitedly planning the semester ahead. Although I was eavesdropping, I am glad I heard what they said because it is the worst to dread the upcoming semester. It is not productive to constantly wish you were still on break with no work to do.
Wake is a lot of work but it is worth it in the end when you realize how much you missed your suitemates, friends, and even having some work to do. Syllabus week is a great opener for the upcoming 5 months which makes the transition from home to school a little easier.
