Going to college is a transitional time. Being a pre-nursing major adds even more stress to this difficult time. While trying to get into the nursing program everyone is in competition, at the same time of trying to gain friends. There are many late nights studying, coffee runs, and cries of joy and stress. Here are the tell-all signs that you are a pre-nursing major:
1. Black, deep eye circles
Let’s be honest, being a nursing major equals to no sleep. We are constantly up with our noses in the books.
2. Always stressed out
I feel like I am always studying for a test. And along with that, stressing over a test. Hence, number 1.
3. No free time
What even is free time? If we aren’t studying for a test, we’re sleeping. I have never been so busy in my life, and I played sports all year round in high school. As a pre-nursing student, you will consistently be telling your friends, “sorry, but I have a test” as a reason to not be able to hang out.
4. Laughing at the idea of a relationship
Pre-nursing majors are focused on one thing and one thing only: getting into the nursing program. Sorry to our partners, we just don’t have time. If you are in a relationship, you have yourself a patient person. And a keeper ;)
5. Never being able to keep up with a TV series
During high school, I was always watching TV show series. In college that idea was out the window. Say goodbye to The Bachelor and Grey’s *tear*. Thank God for Netflix!
6. Thinking we can diagnose anything *roll eyes*
Yes, we are those people. Granted, we aren’t as bad as pre-med majors, but we do think we can tell you what’s wrong. We may be right, but it’s probably more luck than knowledge.
7. Knowing every bone, muscle, and anything else in the body
This one is no joke. This has been pounded in our heads over the past two semesters. Have a question about identifying something and we can definitely get that question right.
8. Forever obsessing over coffee, especially Starbucks
Yes, we may have turned into your typical “white girl”. We can’t help it though. Remember number 1?
9. Daydreaming of summer
Even though every other person in school does this, it’s an everyday occurrence for pre-nursing majors. Being able to go days at a time without having to study? Wow! Is that even a thing? We are going to feel like we are losing our minds.
10. Bonding with other pre-nursing students
Bonding with other students in your major is always fun and exciting. For pre-nursing students, it's almost impossible not to. While studying late at night in the labs for your lab practical, or group projects you learn to rely on each other for support. Since they actually understand the pressure you are under, they make for great best friends.
11. Accomplishment
When you get an “A” on a test that you stayed up all night studying and stressing over, or, when you get your acceptance letter into the nursing program, know that is a major accomplishment. You feel on top of the world and realize all that studying and stress was worth it.
Being a pre-nursing major is tough. You are always being judged, whether people saying they could never be in your place, or if you are actually going to be smart enough to get into the program. But if you are being called to be a nursing major, don’t let anything scare you away. There is a reason you are being called to do this career.
God tells us “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This gives us, and everyone else in the world hope. We can get through this, even those excruciating anatomy exams that keep us until three A.M. in the morning.
