Being a big sister has a lot of responsibilities. I was the oldest of three siblings. When all of these things were happening, I didn't realize how precious they were until I was away at college. Being away has put things in a way that I will never forget. When you no longer have these struggles because you are away you truly do miss them. Being the oldest, I strive to do be the best role model I can be because they mean the world to me and I wouldn't change a thing.
Growing up, your younger siblings followed you all morning while you were getting ready for school
You're never in the bathroom by yourself getting ready – one is brushing their hair while another is brushing their teeth
Eating breakfast was like World War III because someone drank the last of the milk and you just poured your cereal into a bowl and you are trying to put the cereal back into the box.
When you come home you know exactly how much time you have to yourself before your siblings come home from school.
Then you hear the school bus pulls up and they run in to terrorize you and you just smile
Then comes dinner time where World War IV happens because everyone wants something different — but in the end, mom figures it out for us.
Helping your younger siblings with their homework makes your own look impossible. And then you wish you had theirs to pass in the next morning
But I think the best part of being an older sibling is seeing the smile on their face when the day is done and they give you a kiss and say “I LOVE YOU”
The best part of being an older sibling is that you are a role model to them and looking at them and seeing all the possibilities they have in life.
