As the end of my freshman year winded down my nerves about finals was soon replaced with my nerves about packing. It took four checked bags to get me from California to upstate New York, but I only had one to get me home in. It seemed like an impossible task and it honestly filled me with fear, but with the aid of space bags, multiple storage bins, and sheer determination I did it. However, there were so many struggles that I encountered along the way.
1. When did I get all of this stuff?
I assumed that it wouldn't be hard to pack at all since I had so much storage space, but when it was time to actually start all of my things began to add up and half of them I don't even remember when I accumulated them, It made everything very overwhelming.
2. My roommate already moved out and took the vacuum...
My plan was to survive on space bags, but I didn't take into account that I wouldn't have a vacuum. I had to result to laying on top of the bags in an attempt to get all of the air out which worked just well enough for me to accomplish the feat.
3. Well these bins aren't even closing.
I stacked as much as I could in each bin that I had and it looked organized and completely fine until I went to put on the lid and realized I had stretched the bins out so much that it was as if the lid was two sizes to small for it.
4. Should I just burn everything?
There was a point where I just started throwing things away. I had to clear up some space and it was a risk I was willing to take.
5. I'm never going to be able to do this.
I almost gave up at least five times.
6. I need more bins.
I definitely had to keep making trips to Walmart because I underestimated the amount of stuff I had.
7. I forgot about all of my shoes.
I had my luggage all packed and zipped up until I looked around the room and saw the piles of shoes I had to bring home. Back to square one.
8. Maybe if I sit on it I can get it to close.
It took about thirty minutes for me to adjust everything in my suitcase to be able to squeeze it closed.
9. Finally!
But when it did close I almost started crying.
