My first week as a teaching assistant, I was a nervous ball of energy but found that once I relaxed a little and channeled my inner awesome, everything worked out better than I had dreamed. Being a teaching assistant is an incredible amount of work, and the commitment and passion needed is draining. Here are some of the toughest moments that every TA can relate to.
1. Getting up to go to the main lecture
The day we teach starts early enough...now we have to go to lecture twice a week too?!
2. Sitting alone in office hours
Someone help.
3. When your students say they don't care
Well....it's not like I've dedicated my life to this or anything...
4. Grading deadlines
HELP ME
5. Late nights & early mornings helping your students study
I haven't slept in 8 years
6. Actually having to dress nice...everyday...
You can wear leggings with a blazer, right?
7. The bill when you buy your student's treats
This is why we can't have nice things...
8. The "soul-crushingly awkward" stare
Please speak. Anyone.
9. When you forget everything during the first exam review
I promise I'm not this dumb
10. Eating your rushed lunch in office hours
Which is everyday.
11. Putting in 80+ students' grades...but being proud of their work.
I've been grading for years.
