I am currently a freshman at La Salle University in Philadelphia. Some things that I have started to notice about my major is that a lot of uninformed people don't realize that there is so much going on in the background to get a final product that I could say I am proud of.
In this article, we'll look at some of the struggles that DArt majors and other Art related majors might come across.
1. It is not as easy as it looks!
In more than one instance, I have already concluded that not everything is as easy as it looks! It does not mean that it is impossible to do, but instead that practice makes perfect and one might not get it exactly how they want it on the first try.
2. Some work won't turn out how you want it to look.
When it comes to doing work for someone, they may have this vision in their mind on how the product should look when you actually have something completely different in mind. It's tough to realize that not everything will go exactly how you want it!
3. Some work takes a looooong time to finish.
When you are given a deadline that seems like it's still a long time from now, you sometimes think that there would be plenty of time to do it and you wont have to worry. But when it comes to the week it's due... oh boy.
4. A frozen computer is a DArt major's nightmare.
When you are finally in the zone getting everything you need completed, the worst thing that could happen is... well, a frozen computer. This has already happened to me a number of times and it has to be one of the worst things I've encountered, along with forgetting my ID in my room or finding out that I have no cash when paying for my Chinese food.
5. Designing Block
It's the same concept as writer's block. Sometimes when doing work, you just decide that your work isn't good enough, or something is just wrong about it. Throwing away work is always one of the worst feelings.
While there are many negative situations I have been in, I can assure you that there are definitely some good things that have happened!
6. People ask for you to do work for them!
While doing work, whether it be behind a desk or while I am out taking pictures, I have been asked if I could do work for people. I have been approached by administrators at my school and even businesses while I am doing an event for other clients! There are a lot of opportunities out there to get work!
The ultimate goal of this article was to say that working as a DArt major is definitely like a rollercoaster! There is so much yet to be learned an I am pretty sure I have yet to get to the first big hill. While it may seem as though there are only challenges up ahead, I can assure you that there are some good things that will happen too!
