Being a female in today's society is already hard enough with the unfair assumptions that are made towards us. The metal community is supposed to be a family, but sometimes we can't escape the judgments that are made. I have compiled a list of a few things I've noticed while being an avid concert goer and a female.
1. You have no interest in hooking up with a band member but apparently that's the only reason you're at the show.
2.You always somehow get a Protector
If you're anywhere near the front or the pit you always seem to have that one guy that looks out for you. I swear he's everywhere. When you fall, he's there. When you want to crowd-surf he comes out of nowhere. I call this guy the Protector for the very reason that no matter what he has your back. You never actually get this person's name either but you form a pretty awesome bond.
3. Enter the Tour Bus and You're Automatically a Groupie
There are so many stereotypes with being a female in today's society and one of them is whenever you enter a tour bus or a van something MUST have happened. Actually, no. Some of us literally just chill in the van and talk to the band mates because we are friends with them, married to them, etc. There's nothing else to it.
4. "I'm sorry sweetheart but you may want to watch out for the pit."
I don't know how many times I have been just watching a show and keeping my eye on the pit and someone just has to warn me about how rough and hard the pit is. People even go as far as telling me I'll get hurt if I go in it. Look, thank you for the kind words and "suggestions" but some of us can handle ourselves and don't need you to think we are weak because we are a smaller female.
