1. The overwhelming joy of moving-in day, transfer orientation and a fresh new start.
After my final semester at my previous school, I was so looking forward to school. You feel like everything is starting to fall into place.
2. The anxiety, nervousness, mixed emotions, even loneliness.
The day I arrived to campus. WOW. Everything sunk in at full speed. The realization that I am not on the same campus as last semester. No longer would I see the friends I shared my many "first" college experiences with. I had nothing to return to. The worst part is one minute, I was so sad and disappointed at all that I left behind, the next minute I was so pumped to be in a new school.
3. Fear turned to... Excitement?
"This campus looks so nice." "Im sure I'll adjust soon enough." After pushing all the negatively aside, I was so prepared for the first week of classes, club meetings, social events, everything! I even had that "this semester will be a breeze" flow. (Perhaps it was too much?)
4. Awkward intros
First day of class, usually consists of reviewing the syllabus and making a friend with the person sitting next to you. (as if we really want to do that, come on now.) The infamous question most people ask goes something along the lines of "it feels good to be back in school, doesn't it?" Well, truthfully i wouldnt know. I don't know if I can speak for every transfer, but I hated telling others my transfer story. Like seriously who wants to hear someone your professor forced you to introduce yourself to go on and on as to why he/she decided to change schools.
5. Missing credits?
Never, in my life, had I been more upset at a piece of paper. Literally. I had gone to my advisor to see how my credits transferred over, assuming that all did since it was within the SUNY system. Only 43 out of 60 credits? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! Basically, a PAID semester and a half of hard earned grades were unaccounted for.
6. Being involved on campus...
In my old school, I was extremely active on campus. It really brought out my potential, exposed me to new experiences, gave me something to do on my free time (which living on campus, i had nothing but free time) and it was great networking. Well, being on a new campus, it gets harder. For now, I have not stepped foot into campus life here at school. Hope that changes ASAP.
7. Getting lost on campus, even after a good month into school.
I kid you not, you will still get lost on campus and still have so much more to explore. With it being my first semester here, I still have yet to discover the football field, the gym and a couple of buildings here and there. Also, I am still not familiar with the town around campus. "Chicken Joe's?" Up till this day, I have not visited or ordered the off campus go to/ food deilvery
