I am a chronic procrastinator-- I admit it. It’s not that I’m lazy, I get the thing done, but you bet your butt that I’m going to wait until the last second to do it. Now, there are two types of procrastinators though, the ones that get the thing done and does a good job, and the one that does not. But generally we all have the same thoughts while working up the motivation to do anything, especially homework.
1. I can’t do this right unless I take a nap.
2. How much time do I have to take nap?
3. Technically, the 10-page paper isn’t due until tomorrow at 4 p.m., so I’ll have time tomorrow too.
4. Well, two pages down -- I can take a Netflix break.
5. Just one more episode.
6. So, let’s see, the episodes are 45 minutes.
It’ll take me two hours and half to do my homework... I can live with five hours of sleep.
7. What grade do I have in this class?
8. I need to look at the syllabus.
9. How many points do they take off for turning it in a day late?
10. Five-page paper?
Oh, that’s easy, I’ll just add a title page.
11. Oh! "SVU" is on!
12. Why would they change ABC Family’s name?
Freeform is such a weird thing to change it to. I’m still calling it ABC Family.
13. I need to turn the TV off, if I’m going to get anything done.
14. Ugh, I’m so tired, but I’m almost done.
15. If I go to bed now, I’ll get five hours of sleep.
16. Maybe I'll get up early and finish it.
17. I’m too tired to finish this how I want to.
If I wake up early, I’ll be rested and I can make this a good quality paper.
18. I know I’m not getting up early, but I’m going to tell myself that so I feel better.
It’s OK to be a procrastinator! You just aren’t easily motivated like some people. Try new ways to get yourself motivated like listening to certain music or taking a couple minutes to goof off. To be honest, as long you get your work done and done right it doesn’t matter. You do you. I wait till the last second to do everythin,g and I have a 4.0 this semester. You just have to know how you work and how you get things done, and model things around that.
