Diabetes! What is it? Why is it running rampant in our bodies? Why are we allowing it to control our body and ourselves?
I’ve been researching this nasty disease that has been invading the human body for centuries and probably longer than that. I was intrigued by this disease because it took the life of a childhood friend of mine at a very young age. I couldn’t understand at the time and I didn’t know what diabetes really was. One day after my heart breaking trauma that I endured from his passing I had to look up this killer disease and investigate.
What the hell is diabetes? According to google, "diabetes" is a metabolic disease in which the body’s inability to produce any or enough insulin causes elevated levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. My research leads to some really good information about diabetes. I also came across some more interesting information about how long diabetes may have been around. According to Brown University they have found recorded by ancient Hindi’s there has been symptoms from 400 B.C. and the symptoms indicated was the way their urine looked like. Also, it states that one of the earliest recordings is 150 A.D..
About 15 years ago I needed to know what this diabetes does to the body. I found that there are four types of diabetes. I also found out about that the pancreas in our body. The pancreas is an important organ in the body, and it releases hormones into our digestive system, when the body experiences blood sugar is too high there are cells in the pancreas that releases insulin. The insulin is cells that take the sugar to our fat cells and turns it into energy for our body, which is very important for us to live. Getting diabetes is a serious danger to the human body. It causes nerve damage, excessive weight loss; it can lead to having your limbs cut off which eventually leads to more limbs and then death. I mentioned earlier there are 4 types of diabetes and I will list them below and try my best to explain what the types do inside of our body.
Type 1 diabetes also known "juvenile diabetes":
This is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. This type of diabetes cannot be cured but there is treatments that can help keep the diabetes under control. A person can be born with this type or get it as a child.
Type 2 diabetes also known as "adult onset diabetes":
This is a chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar which is called by doctor’s glucose. It’s treated by medication. This type of diabetes can’t be cured especially if diabetes runs in your family and if it’s genetic.
Type Prediabetes also known as "impaired glucose tolerance":
This is a condition in which blood sugar is high but isn’t high enough to be in the type 2 diabetes area. This type can be reversible by working out and eating healthier and clean. So get on it if you have been diagnosed in this area. Many people are being diagnosed in this area, be careful what you are putting in your body.
Type Gestational diabetes also known as "diabetes during pregnancy":
This is a type of high blood sugar caused by the pregnancy which the placental hormones cause the high blood sugar but usually after giving birth it’s taken care of.
Ok, now that I have gone over all the types of diabetes, there is so much more information but that’s for the books. Diabetes is very dangerous it starts to overheat other organs especially the liver and the kidneys. For types one and two eventually it will damage so many organs like the heart, brain, and liver, retina in the eyes (which is your sight), kidneys and the nerves. The body will react in having a heart attack or a stroke that leads to the ultimate deed, death. Your body will start to warn you, pay close attention. It could start off by the change of your skin it will look as if it is really dry and start causing spots, it can turn the neck area dark in color, your urine will change; it could be frequent urinating or a very ugly strong smell. If diabetes runs in your family genes get yourself checked out, just to be on the safe side. Ever since my child hood friend passed away from this nasty organ eating disease. I’m very cautious even myself that I was diagnosed prediabetic my doctor wanted to put me on medicine and I told her no. I made myself this way I can undo this. She gave me three months to lose 30 pounds. I came back for my follow up in three months and I was good and healthy.
