It has been said by many that moving out of your parents'/guardians' house has to be one of the most stressful times in one's life. I definitely can attest to that, in this case, it was moving out for college. This past June I moved to New York City for college, all the way from my small hometown of McAllen,Texas. It has taken a while to adjust considering I left all my friends and family behind as well as the difference in lifestyle.
A lot of this "Moving Out Stress" comes from the fear of being alone. We as humans are very social, well most of us are at least, and to create certain bonds can take time. The thought of having to make new friends is very stressful to most people, and this creeps in even before all bags are packed. When we leave home there's a sense of aloneness, especially when on the flight and or drive to your "final destination". Trust me when I say this, you are not alone. Every year hundreds of thousands of people take this leap into adulthood which is almost always rewarding. When leaving, remember to take the essentials.
When I left home I was afraid of under packing as well as over packing. Essentials can include but not limited to a toothbrush, soap, and towels. Also bedding, and bring enough clothes to mix and match. I would recommend bringing an alarm clock since your classes could be at 8 a.m. and you should never rely on your phone to wake you up.
At the end of the day, don't be ashamed of being afraid! You will make it in whatever you set your mind to. If you need someone to talk to, remember all the students you are with. They have jumped into adulthood, just like you!
