Writing is something... well, that not everyone likes to do. Personally, it's something I cannot imagine my life without. I write often; I'm a journalism major. However, creative writing and discovering my love for this means of expression has completely changed my life.
If you hate writing, hear me out.
Writing is probably one of the easiest ways to get your mind focused or keep your mind off of things... simultaneously. Think about a time where you just had a lot on your mind. Anytime you're really stressed, overwhelmed, or just uncertain of what to do: writing those things down can really help you pinpoint what your issue is and often leads you to a solution much more easily. This is something I've learned to do, and I always feel less stressed (or whatever emotion I was feeling beforehand) once I get all of my thoughts out.
Honestly, it's kind of like closure.
Think about it, when you're writing out your thoughts, it's kind of a way to get them out of your head. It's a clean break; you get rid of them. I find this incredibly liberating, and once I've written things down I often realize the problems in my head are not as large as they may seem. You spend time with the thoughts that may seem the scariest, and writing them down is kind of like a clean break up. You don't have to publish or advertise these thoughts to anyone but yourself.
Writing is a way to free your mind. You learn more about yourself by not realizing your thoughts, but by arranging them and putting them on a piece of paper. You realize what's important. You know the prominence of events in your head. From there, you can take effective action to solve anything.
Maya Angelou once said, "There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you." I agree. For those of you who hate to write, I really do encourage you to just write a few words down on your thoughts and feelings every once in a while. I hope one day you can realize the power of our mind, and how writing these thoughts can simply change your life. Don't let your story stay untold.
