The Story Of The Rest Of My Life

I still have no idea what I am doing...

The Story Of The Rest Of My Life
SVP Cleveland

I am a 20 year old college student that is currently studying for my future, except there is one problem... I have no idea what I want to do.

Society rules to tell individuals that for 12 years you need to go to school, but it does not stop there. After you successfully complete 12 years you have some major decisions to make. Although the options seem endless, there is still no way of knowing, at the age of 18, what the next step in life is. The guidance of many adults and friends is present, but still, the rest of my life is dictated by a decision I make as an 18 year old.

Some people may think they know, or have an idea of what they want to do, but if they decide to go to college and get a higher education, everything suddenly changes.

As a senior in high school, preparing myself for the next step in my life was never easy. I went through strenuous hours of classwork in order to obtain the grades necessary to attend college. Aside from the classwork, I was also deciding on a major, and what to study when I finally got into college. My interests ranged from wanting to be a lawyer, to an autopsy nurse, to a vet, and eventually I decided on pursuing a degree in Marine Science.

So now that I decided what I was going to study for the next 4 years of my schooling, I also had to decide what I was going to do after I earned my degree. I needed to focus on my interests but also things that would allow me to become successful. Talk about STRESS.

So here I am, a 20 year old, sophomore in college - I am no longer a Marine Science major, but instead an Interdisciplinary Studies major. I have a passion for so many aspects and I found this major to be a simple way of integrating all my interests. EXCEPT there's one thing... I still have no idea what I am doing.

Yes, I do well in school, but I am also trying to do well in life. Everyday I sit there in my classes wondering, is this going to benefit my job and, more importantly, my life life in 20 years? Often times I cannot answer my own question.

I have gone through months of being completely stressed out because I still have zero clue what I actually want to do with my life. Sure, I have some ideas and interests but there is no crystal ball to tell me exactly what I need to do in order to be successful in the future.

I have recently decided I am done stressing about this. Instead of saying I am already 20, I have decided to say I am ONLY 20. Regardless of what people tell me, I am still young and still have time. It is okay to be confused, because along the road, answers will arise. No matter what, I still have a future ahead of me and I will make it the best future it can be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
