The Stages Of Winter

As told by someone who needs summer now.

Winter comes every year, yet every year I question why it does come. Wouldn't life be better if it was just warm all the time, I can only imagine. If you are a true summer person like I, you can probably relate and are probably at one of these stages.

1. Being ready for bonfires, hot chocolate, and snow

When summer is long gone and we are approaching winter, although we are sad, winter brings a lot of exciting things. Late night bonfires, large consumptions of hot chocolate, and our inner child coming out when building snowmen are all things that we can look forward too.

2. Sweater Weather

After showing off skin all summer, it’s time to cover up and what better thing to cover up with them a sweater. Each year the clothes in our closets go from every color tank top with every color and pattern of sweaters. One can never have enough sweaters, right?

3. Hooray for snow day!

We pray long and hard for these days. When we wake up to the email that classes are cancelled due to snow. Not only do you not have to get out of bed and go into a lecture but you get to lounge around all day and not feel bad about it.

4. Bubble bath & Netflix binge

Bubble baths are great, bubble baths while watching a new Netflix series is even better. I mean why not?

5. OK I'm freezing

Ok, it was nice until Christmas...News flash Christmas is over and I’m ready for the sunshine and my tank tops back in my closet. Now, it’s a new semester and I’m drowning in assignments and have nowhere to escape to where I won’t get frostbite.

6. Why won't this snow melt, I hate my house

My hunter boots are starting to form to my feet. I’m tired of walking like a baby deer on this icy ground. I have also re-arranged my bedroom six times and I still hate how it looks.

7. Sunshine, Where are you?

Dear Sunshine,

I miss you. I miss you a lot. I miss the days that you warmed me up. I think that’s you up there but it doesn’t feel like the real you. Please come back to us.

Sincerely, a frozen girl.

8. I've run out of Netflix shows

I’ve watched Grey’s Anatomy twice now..yeah you heard me correctly. I don’t think I can take it anymore. I have nothing left to watch, I’ve seen it all.

9. I'm SO pale

I’ve tried a spray tan, tanning bed, tanning lotion, even laying out on that random day in December when it hit 65, nothing is lasting. I look like a ghost and I’m honestly not okay with it.

10. Longing for the beach

I’ve caught myself looking back at old photos way too much. Not just any old photos, photos of me and friends on the beach. I am seriously having withdrawals of salt water, and hot sand.

11. One way ticket to California

I've also considered walking there...

12. Rethinks life

I always thought I would always stay where I am now but I don’t think I can take another winter. Why does winter even exist? Please, someone, tell me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
