The Stages Of The First Month Of School

It can be quite the emotional, mental, and physical roller coaster.

1. When you move in, you are super excited about school and friends, and are determined to great great grades this quarter.

2. You tell yourself you are only going to go out the first week and from then on you can only go on the weekends because school is super important.

3. You also tell yourself you’re going to be super healthy and active and go to the gym.

4. You sign up for everything because you think you’re going to have time to do it all.

5. Suddenly you miss one day of homework and are drowning in work trying to catch up.

6. You stop showing up to almost all of the clubs you originally signed up for.

7. Sleep becomes more important than going to lecture, or you decide that you’d rather do all of your catch up work because it’s more “effective” that way.

8. You realize you’ve been to the gym once since getting to school.

9. And you also get FOMO (fear of missing out) so you think going out more, including on a bunch of weekdays after power week is over, is a great idea.

10. Oops, you overslept and missed your section again and had to email your TA that you’re dying of some sort of illness.

11. Homesickness starts to creep up on you, and then you realize you can’t go home because you have midterms next week.

12. And because you are still trying to catch up from one day that you missed in the beginning of school so you become a coffee dependent life form that lives in the library.

13. The idea of eating healthy is tossed out the window because you become too lazy to walk anywhere far away to get food while studying.

14. You doubt your previous decisions about going out instead of doing the essay that is worth 50% of your grade and is due tomorrow.

15. But somehow you pull through because of insane focus, will power, and Yerba Mate.

16. You make it through midterms only to realize that you have another round of them coming in a week.

17. You eagerly count down the days until break when you are free of school.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
