Adele just released her new, highly-coveted album, "25," on this past Friday, Nov. 20. Buzz of whether she would allow her album to be on Spotify or Apple music was up for debate. With the release, she ultimately decided to make the new album unavailable on both of these new music streaming sites. Spotify released a statement saying “We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify. We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy "25" on Spotify alongside "19" and "21" very soon.”
Adele is not the only artist who has pulled her music from streaming sites. Taylor Swift, Jimmy Buffet, and Neil Young are just a few among the angry artists that are upset with the lack of credit they received from Spotify streaming their music. According to Business Insider, Taylor Swift was on tract to make six million dollars per year. Streaming her music on Spotify would only give her a fraction of this total. As this new digital age continues to change, will more artists pull their music from digital streaming sites? Or do artists need to be more lenient with the evolving technology? Only time will tell!
