The Significance Of Memes

If you have ever been on the Internet, you have probably seen a meme, a picture of a reaction that is accompanied by a humorous subtitle. Ever since the beginning of the 21st Century, people have been making memes and posting them on the Internet.

Some memes are cute, like the popular cat meme known as “Invisible Cheeseburger,” in which cats are shown making silly faces and poses. The picture is then accompanied by a humorous headline. These kinds of memes have the most attraction towards animal lovers, high school girls and crazy cat ladies. Many of the memes also depict the cats pretending to do things that people normally do. Memes like these are enjoyable since a significant number of people enjoy how cute animals can be. The joke behind this particular type of meme is putting the cats in human situations.

Some memes have a more realistic sense of comedy. The best example is the Lord of the Rings Borimir meme. The meme plays on Borimir's best known quote, "One does not simply walk into Mordor," by replacing the last three words with a situation that is well known. This kind of meme gives the reader something to relate to and is enjoyable because then they can have a good laugh about it.

Another popular type of meme is a reaction meme. In its simplest form, a reaction meme consists of a picture of someone's face, human or animal, and a headline relating to a situation, such as "When I wake up in the morning and my hair is a mess." Reaction memes can also be used to depict good situations, such as "When my parents leave me the keys to the car." The possibilities for this meme are endless.

Memes can also express materialistic wants. One meme that best describes this contains a picture of Fry from "Futurama" with the subtitle, "Shut up and take my money!" Above the picture is an object of appeal, like a new phone case or a car. Sometimes there is no object and Fry is dressed up as a character from a video game, like Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog.

Many people say that memes are a waste of time. While there may be some truth to that, memes can be very important to other people. Memes can be used for self-expression, allowing people to fully reveal their feelings. This can lead people to believe that memes are an underrated form of art. Memes can also be used as a form of escapism. Their humorous headlines and pictures can provide a good laugh after a seemingly dreary day. Truly, there are many positive outcomes when it comes to memes.

Summer Slump

Summer is a time for fun in the sun, hanging out with friends, and living it up, but for some people, that's not the case. Summer is a nightmare for idle minds. Let me explain what I mean by that. For people with mental illness having the extra time to think and relax can be devastating for their mental health. Now, this isn't a problem for everyone but for some people who suffer from mental illness, this is a reality.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) reported that about 35.7% of 12th graders in the U.S. had used marijuana in the past year, and 11.8% reported daily use. As for coming to school under the influence, specific statistics can be hard to come by, but there is concern that the increasing social acceptance of marijuana may lead to higher rates of use among teenagers.
