The Sibling Struggle

Siblings are both the best and worst.

Siblings are great company; they assure that you’ll never be lonely. However, having a sibling can either be super wonderful or super annoying. Sometimes siblings are your best friends whom you can tell anything, but most of the time they annoy the crap out of you. If you have siblings, you know how frustrating they can be. One minute they’re playing all sweet and nice, the next they’re tattling on you to your mom to try to get you into trouble! Here’s the annoying truth about life with siblings:

1. They always seem to get their way.

Whether you were little kids playing pretend or you are currently adults, your siblings always get their way. She was always the princess, you were the ugly step sister (or the prince).

2. They steal your thunder.

You're top dog--until your sibling comes along. Whether he's a brand new baby or he's just trying to one-up you, a sibling knows how to take attention away from you.

3. Siblings don't have any boundaries.

Siblings definitely don’t understand boundaries. Sometimes you need your own space, but they don’t care. Too often you’ll walk into your room just to find your brother or sister sprawled out on your bed; when this happens, a super-fight ensues to get them out of your space!

4. What’s yours is theirs and vice versa.

Stealing from your sibling is totally acceptable—as long as you don’t get caught. Their stuff and their clothes are usually way better than yours, so sometimes you just need to use their stuff. If you’re caught, however, all hell breaks loose, and another super-fight ensues.

5. You have epic fights.

All your fights are huge battles of strength and strategy. You might look stupid and your parents definitely don’t understand, but you bond through fighting. Sometimes you are actually so angry with your sibling, but usually you just end up laughing while you fight.

6. Siblings can get you in serious trouble.

Siblings usually know everything you do without your parent’s knowledge, and they’re not afraid to use their knowledge as blackmail. Using the information they have against you, they can get you to do pretty much anything. Or, sometimes they just tell on you because they’re entertained when your parents yell at you.

7. Conversely, you can get your siblings in serious trouble.

Nothing is more entertaining than watching your siblings get in trouble for something you did. It’s always so hard not to laugh.

8. Nothing feels worse than your sibling actually being right.

As a sibling, you must assert your dominance. But when you’re fighting a losing battle, maintaining your dominance is difficult. You just can’t stand when your sibling is right.

9. You’re the only one who’s allowed to hurt them.

You can be as awful to your siblings as you want, but the minute someone else is awful to them, you get super over-protective. No one else has the privilege of picking on them; you love them too much to let anyone else hurt them.

10. You know they'd be there for you just as you'd be there for them.

Even through all the fighting and picking on each other, you know you can rely on your siblings for anything.

10. Watching them grow up is emotional.

You have the opportunity to watch your siblings grow and develop as people, but it’s always emotional to watch them move through the chapters of their lives. Through elementary school, high school, prom, boyfriends or girlfriends, and graduation, you watch your siblings experience life and mature. Growing up with a sibling is a wonderful privilege and no matter how much you pick on each other, you’ll always love them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
