“What are Chubbies?” is a question I hear usually at least once or twice a day, but an excerpt taken straight from the company’s website sums it up much better than I ever could.
“Simply put, Chubbies are the best shorts out there. Comfortable, flexible, aerodynamic and most of all utterly Radical, Chubbies are everything a short should be and more. They are weekend BBQs in the sun. They are that perfect day on the beach. They are trampoline dodgeball and IM sports. They are radical mustaches and longboarding in Costa Rica. They go where no cargo shorts can go, and they do it in style. Don't take our word for it, though, try them out yourself. If you're not satisfied with your shorts' performance, just send 'em back. Simple as that.”
Chubbies is a shorts company headquartered in San Francisco that currently leads the revival of the radical vibrant short shorts that you find pictures of your dad wearing from his college years. With the inseams coming in hot at a 5.5 inches, there is plenty of room for even the most muscular pair of thighs in these shorts. While this company is trying to bring short shorts into full swing, they are trying to eliminate cargo shorts as a whole with their "cargo embargo." Also, who doesn't love a brand that embodies the weekend?
"We're constantly building this brand around the weekend and the feeling you get around Friday at 5 p.m.," Tom Montgomery the found of Chubbies says. "When a guy throws them on, the stress and rigors of the work week can be put on hold for a bit."1,199,943 chubsters (one who "chubs") but they were once just four guys from Stanford with a dream. The four of them all quit their jobs in 2011 to start their own company that would sell the short shorts that they loved wearing. They made a few pairs to bring to a beach weekend with 20 of their friends and they sold every pair they made before they left. This was only the beginning of their success…
“During one day in March 2013, the company sold 10,000 pairs of ‘Mericas alone. (At $60 a pop, that’s $600,000 in sales…in one day.)”- J.J. Colao
College Ambassador Program
The brand slowly has been developing its college ambassador program since 2012 after recruiting 25 representatives by emailing fraternities from universities across the south. The college kids absolutely loved the brand and the program has rapidly expanded since 2012 now with 300+ ambassadors which now includes females that want to represent the weekend and eliminate cargo shorts from the face of the earth!
Not "JUST SHORTS"
Chubbies doesn’t just sell shorts, they also sell short-sleeve and long-sleeve shirts but with their own extra spin on them. The Nutters are just as vibrant and stand-outish as your short shorts, if not more. Along with the nutters, the company has also released a collection of six half-zip sweatshirts that are taking the Internet by storm.
Not Just Guys
Ladies, uninterested? No fear, Chubbies has a pair of American flag short shorts for you too, so you can join in the thigh liberation. Also with word of more coming for females in the next 12 months, stay tuned!
Thighber Monday
Ever heard of cyber Monday? Sure you have. But thighber Monday is 100x better. On Nov. 30, Chubbies will be having a promotion for 12 different gifts with purchase for 12 different hours (8 a.m. - 8 p.m. PST), and every hour on the website a new code will be released which is redeemable at the check out for never before seen Chubbies swag that you can’t get anywhere else!
This brand has come a really long way from just being a couple of guys quitting their jobs to pursue their short-short filled dreams, definitely the next up and coming business to keep your eye out for!
