The Seattle-Grace Interns Take On Finals Week

No one understands your stress quite like the "Grey's" interns.

Finals week has been dubbed “hell week” for a good reason. We become far too familiar with the library, staying up until 3:00 AM, dinners consisting of whatever you could fit in your backpack along with your study materials, having absolutely no social life and little human interaction for a week. To say the least, finals week is stressful. Nobody knows stress like a medical school intern, and nobody truly knows stress like an intern of Seattle-Grace Hospital. With flirty bosses, cheating significant others and tragic deaths in every episode, the interns’ lives are a mess enough as it is. Being a surgeon on top of their disastrous love lives gives them plenty of practice on dealing with stress. So, what would we find the interns doing during finals week?

Meredith Grey

Every time something moderately stressful happens in Meredith’s life, she cries it out (for a good 30% of the entire episode) and hits the bar. Meredith would be found diligently studying for her exams by day, but by night she would be totally downing tequila shots in the local bar that doesn’t card and flirting with the grad student that teaches her microbiology lab (who may or may not be engaged).

Cristina Yang

You know that girl you see in the library that looks like she hasn’t moved from the same spot in three days? That would be Cristina Yang. Although she’s definitely been blessed with some natural intelligence, Cristina didn’t get to the top of her class at Stanford without a little work. Cristina is 100% the overly intense girl that’s been studying for 23 hours of the day and restricting the final hour of her day to a small amount of food consumption and bathroom breaks. Yep, she’s that girl.

Alex Karev

Any seasoned “Grey’s Anatomy” fan could tell you about Alex failing his first medical board exams, and I can almost guarantee it was because he barely studied. Alex Karev is the type of guy who won’t work any harder for something than he needs to, and his finals are no exception. During finals week, you’ll probably find him in bed (probably not alone, for that matter), running into all of his finals late and leaving with a smirk on his face.

Izzie Stevens

No doubt the “pretty girl” of her major, Izzie wouldn’t do an extreme amount of studying; she has to keep up with her modeling commitments on the side. Most of the class and even some of her professors probably just wrote her off as the dumb blonde who thought she could go to medical school. However, she would probably get the highest grade in the class anyway; surprising everybody.

George O'Malley

Ah, George, a favorite from early “Grey’s Anatomy” (no spoilers!). Undoubtedly, due to his inability to shut up most of the time, George would probably be the professor’s least favorite student, most likely causing him to freak out and feel the need to prove the professor wrong. George would also be so busy running around, stressing and printing out pointless diagrams in such a panic that he probably wouldn’t have much time to study all the materials he prepared. However, since he’s George, he would pull it off and pass because, well, no one could ever give sweet little George an F.

Finals week sucks, to be quite frank, but it can't be nearly as bad as having to live your life in the "Grey's Anatomy" universe. Just remember: if the interns can make it to residency under the Nazi, you can make it through exams!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
