Bursts of light flashed before his eyes and the blurbs of voices could be heard often in the background. He mumbled something incoherent and then everything went pitch black. His eyes opened, then closed, then opened again before he was blinking freely.
He turned his head to the side trying to determine where the constant beeping sound was coming from, and trying to find the source of his throbbing pain. To his right he saw a weird looking metal device with buttons, levers, and flashing lights. Turning his head to the other side he came in contact with the wall. “Oomph” he muttered. Another set of beeps began to sound, this time louder than before and more persistent. He turned back to his right in time to find a strange looking individual charging into the room.
“Oh my, oh my goodness” said the strange being, “the boss will be so happy.”
He ran over to a wall directly below my feet and tried to move his head up, but suddenly realized the pain he had been feeling since he woke up was coming from his head.’Whom, whom, whom’ his head seemed to be yelling. Slowly he put his head back down, and waited for the throbbing in his head to stop.
To his right the weird looking individual came back into focus, but now the being looked even stranger than before. The creature was wearing some sort of large lens on the front of his face and was holding three different metal tools in his large hands.
"Oh my, oh my goodness."
‘There was that phrase again. What in the universe was he talking about? Where did my translator go, I wonder?’ He turned his head and the tall individual looming over him shrieked, "he moved, he moved!" before going back to punching things into the big machine with lots of buttons.
Looking around again he decided to figure out where he was and what this thing that was holding him hostage was labeled as. He knew it wasn't from his planet Scif [sif]. He didn't look anything like a Scifiaan [sif-ee-an] and he wasn't on their sister planet Syficios [si-fi-cee-ose]. He thought back to the 784 planets that he had memorized and wished he had studied harder.
'Wait,' he thought to himself, 'what was the name of that lost planet?' He concentrated hard for a moment. 'Earth! That was it. So this thing in front of me must be a human.'
‘Hmm. Well that’s interesting, but how did I get here?’ He thought back to what had happened and tried to remember. ‘There was an explosion of some kind. Wait, what was I working on?’ He continued going back and forth in his brain trying to remember what he had been assigned to fix. ‘The J.U.M.P.!!! How could I have forgotten. The Jovian Universal Megastructure Portal. Of course! I was assigned to fix it so that we could begin exploring the lost universe, before it malfunctioned that is.” Then sparks flew, metal went flying and the explosion seemed to stop time before I was blown away. “Well I guess the J.U.M.P. works, I just wish I knew how to get back.’ He had closed his eyes during this time, realizing that sealing off the light coming from the bright lights helped his head, but now he opened them again, only to yell out in fear because of the large human looming over him.
“AHHHHH!” The human yelled and then jumped backward.
‘Why on Scif would anyone do something like that?’
He tried to move his head again, but it was still held in place to the strange table he was laying on. The human once again moved towards him, but didn’t come as close as before.
“Subject is trying to move head. I should mention that the subject is being held down to the table.”
‘What is this human doing?’

Xenoarchaeologist Rick Shields looked down at his first and only subject. ‘Oh my goodness I can’t believe this is happening! I am actually here in the same room as an actual alien. I can’t believe this is happening to me.’ Rick made his way back over to the wall of computers and typed in a couple measurements. Height: 6 foot. Weight: 160 pounds. Eye color: Green. Pupil shape: Humanoid in nature. Skin color: Varying shades of grey. Bone structure: Also humanoid in nature. Gender: To be determined at a much later date.
He pondered if there was anything else then wrote down two questions. Where does it come from? And does it have a name?

The human had stepped out of the room some time ago and he was all alone.
‘What am I going to do?’ There were several options of course, but none seemed to be effective or beneficial to his health. He moved his wrists slightly and tried to estimate the quality of the metal that was holding him down. He judged that if he had better leverage then perhaps it was possible, but in the state he was in it wasn’t very likely. He slowed his breathing and shut his eyes. There was some way out of here, he just wasn’t sure what that was yet. He heard a faint humming sound before it was gone. Then it sounded again and shut off. He opened his eyes and tried to turn his head to see if he could find the source, but every little move sent his head back into, ‘whom, whom, whom.’
He heard the door open and a bright light flashed into his eyes. "Good you're still conscience," said the human. "I wonder if you can understand me," it said.
How he wish he could understand the strange sounds it made. "I have to warn you this might hurt, but I have to run a few more tests." The turned away and went to the desk on the far wall. He returned with a long cylinder with a sharp point on its end. "Now that I think about it this will definitely hurt."
The human started to stick the thing into his immovable leg, but stopped just short because the humming started back up again. Louder this time and with more insistency.
"What is that?" The human looked around trying to discover which of his instruments was trying to get his attention. He set the cylinder down and fiddled with a few knobs and flipped a couple switches. Nothing worked. The human was getting frustrated and the Scifiaan was becoming excited.
'If that noise isn't coming from his instruments then it must becoming from my end of things. They must be looking for me.' Now the humming came in time off and on. Rapid then slow. But gained volume the entire time. Finally it completely stopped.
"Well that was weir---". The human was cut short by the boom of light that erupted in the middle of the room. The Scifiaan felt the room tip and then he blacked out. He heard shouts, saw bright lights and felt himself falling, before once again blacking out.
Waking up to the sound of a He woke to the sound of a fountain and the smells of Armaynean flowers. His head still hurt, but at least the throbbing was gone. He moved his head slowing, hoping that he was not still bolted down. He wasn't, and as he gazed around him he saw that he was in one of Scif's outdoor hospitals. He felt very confused.
A healer approached him from the far side of the compound. "You're awake. This is very good. We were afraid for awhile that you would not come to. You lost a lot of blood in the accident."
"Accident?" he asked.
"Yes. While you were working on the J.U.M.P. Do you remember that?"
"I remember the accident and the human, but everything else is fuzzy."
"Human? What human?"
"The human who captured me when the J.U.M.P. exploded and sent me to earth. I was so glad when you all rescued me."
"But we didn't. You haven't left Scif."
But, he knew he had left Scif, and the human knew he had come to earth, but why did this healer believe he hadn't?
