The art of napping.
I would like to start off saying, I love naps. I am one of those people who could sleep all day and be tired by the time it is time to go to bed. I will say it again: I LOVE naps. Since I was young, I have been a deep sleeper, very hard to wake me from sleep. As you could see, this could become a problem at some point, especially when there are things that need to be done, but still, I LOVE naps. Something I really do not understand is that we have been napping since we were young, but we don’t schedule time in our days to take naps like other countries do. Should a change be made? My answer is yes.
As a college student, we all have those days that are ridiculously busy, or not busy, and we need a snooze.
Here are some things that you should know to make it the best nap you have ever had:
1. If you are in a time crunch, no worries!
A 20-30 minute nap will keep you alert when you wake up, and you don’t get that groggy feeling, and will allow you to still sleep at night.
2. If you do have time, go for the full 90 minutes
With this, it is a full sleep cycle!
3. Try drinking a cup of coffee before you take a nap!
Although this sounds weird, if you drink the coffee pretty quickly, and take a nap afterward for 20 minutes or so, when you wake up, you will feel extra energized because caffeine takes 20 minutes to kick in!
4. Do not take a nap after 4:00
You are most likely fall asleep around noon and 4:00.
5. A 10-minute power nap can save you
Although it sounds short, and maybe a little pointless to only be in bed for 10 minutes, you will wake up feeling more alert.
I would like to add in my own suggestions as well:
6. Cuddle with stuffed animal friend
Personally, since I was young, I have always had one small stuffed animal that helps me sleep.
7. Invest in a heated blanket or a gravity blanket
They will keep you warm and comforted, all nap long.
8. Sleep with multiple pillows
For optimal sleep, I like to have all my pillows around me so I will be guaranteed have a pillow under my head when I sleep. This also provides for extra comfort.
I personally feel like I have mastered the art of napping. Although there is a lot to it, I have confidence as a college student, over the years, you will nail it down too. Again, did I tell you I LOVE napping?
Good luck, and happy napping!
