To The Roommate Who Became My Best Friend

An open letter to the roommate who became my best friend:

To The Roommate Who Became My Best Friend
Xena Raymond

Dear roomie,

I never ever thought I would bond with someone the way I bonded with you. I never thought my college roommate would become my best friend. I never thought that I would be lucky enough to have a friendship like ours. Our friendship happened on accident. We didn't expect it nor did we really want it at the very beginning but now... you're stuck with me for life.

We come from two different worlds and don't have much in common. We are almost the complete opposites of each other but we have created such a strong friendship. I honestly don't think that I'd be able to survive college without you. You have made each day that much easier to get through.

You have never failed me. You have never given me a reason not to trust you. You have always been there for me when I needed you. You have always offered to beat someone who messes with me. You are my family away from home.

You have become so much more than just the person I live with. You have become my other half (my more cynical half). I genuinely enjoy having to see your face every day and I don't feel as though we just tolerate each other's existence. You're the one person I know that won't judge me for the stupid things I do and if anything, you're the one encouraging me to do them.

Thank you for bringing me on late night adventures, doing homework with me until midnight, sticking up for me, and smacking sense into me when needed.

Just know this: No matter what, from here on out, you are my sister. I will always have your back and will always be here for you. We have created a lifelong bond and we're stuck with each other. Even if we wouldn't have lived together, I think we still would've crossed paths at some point. A bond this strong is just meant to be.

Sincerely,

The psycho you have to share a room with.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
