There’s something, more specifically a topic, that has been getting under my skin lately. I’m seeing all these memes around the web and status updates on my news feed about people wanting to change or wanting to be the ones to change the world. Don’t get me wrong, these are great ideas; however, what really gets me is that a lot of these same people don’t take a chance in order to begin to see the change they so desire.
A lot of people don’t substitute the one letter in the word “change ”in order to see it; you have to replace the “G” in change with a “C." You get “chance.” You have to take a chance in order to see change.
Chance is a noun, and what you do with it, becomes a verb. It’s the possibility of something happening. It’s taking a risk, being bold, and putting yourself out there to further the likelihood of change coming about.
What I’ve noticed is that many people want the outcomes and reap the benefits of change, but do not want to go through the process of creating it. There are high school sophomores who are C-level students that want to become A-level students. They have big hopes of going to that special out-of-state school, getting away from the parents, getting that degree, and finding out who they are for themselves, by themselves, but they don’t even want to take the initiative to apply themselves to do better in high school in hopes of the college or university accepting them. These high schoolers have to take a chance at trying to make better grades. They may have to put down a slice of their social life to pick up a book or two. There are people who complain about being stuck in a relationship with a person who doesn’t give them the time and love that they know they deserve. They want that person to develop better characteristics overnight. That’s not how change works. They have to communicate with that person. Maybe their significant other isn’t aware of how they are making them feel. Maybe they are and just don’t care. Whatever the case may be, you have to risk your comfort zone to see a turnaround. It may not be the outcome you want, but it will definitely take you away from where you were, a place you didn’t want to be in.
Often times, many people don’t step out of their comfort zone, because they don’t know what will happen or because they know that the process of achieving their desired goal will not be easy. They have grown accustomed to their circumstance. I understand that it’s not easy, and you can’t plan ahead for every single upcoming obstacle. Too many people get so wrapped up in what others will think of them if they do decide to take a gamble. It honestly does not matter what those people think. If you can envision better for yourself, why not try? If it really bothered you so much, why would you not do something about it? Instead of simply complaining about something, do something about it. You don’t need that friend that’s always bringing you down and making you feel inferior; cut them off. You are under no obligation to them. No obligation to constantly hang out, tell them every detail of your life, or even follow them on Instagram. You may get some backlash and you may feel like you’re being too hard on them, but in the end you will have peace, thus making you happier. With the added peace to your life, you may find new and better friends who genuinely lift you up and create good vibes.
Change comes about with taking a chance. Swap that “G” for a “C.” Yes. The outcomes are uncertain. However, from my own experience, I’ve learned that your attitude has a direct impact on these outcome. So, what are you waiting for? Stop complaining, and start doing something.
