Warning: Spoiler Alert!
If youhave had the chance to see the movie "La La Land," you know what I am implying.
If youare a fan of the famous works of Nicolas Sparks, perhaps this is not the movie for you.
And, if youare in a stage of your life where you are not quite sure where you might end up, this most definitely is the movie for you.
The movie stars Emma Stone as Mia, an aspiring actress, and Ryan Gosling as Sebastian, her love interest and a jazz pianist trying to make ends meet. The two characters met in the beginning of the movie several times only to find out they are maybe “soul mates." At this point in the movie, I was convinced this would be the typical romance movie everyone wants to see.
Throughout the film, the pair advance into a relationship, but find themselves finding success at different times in their lives. This detail causes the couple to deter away from each other and to eventually find happiness in other things.
Years go by after their breakup, and Mia moves back to her parents' home to re-evaluate her life, while Sebastian goes on tour with his famous jazz band.
It isn't until Sebastian comes back to meet Mia at her parents' home, that he tells her not to loose faith in pursuing the career meant to be hers.
After Sebastian gave Mia one last reason to try again, she landed the job she always dreamed of. However, the couple eventually lost touch and moved on with their lives.
To wrap it up, perhaps this is the reason why the movie is called “La La Land.” It suggests the love between the pair was not realistic for the world we live in. Everyone dreams that one day they will find their one true love, and that anything is possible. In the beginning of the movie, there are numerous musical numbers and floating animation that emphasize the impression of a life far from reality. As the movie progresses, it loses the musical numbers creating a more practical lifestyle. By analyzing this cinematic technique, we can see how the movie suggests a shift in one's outlook on the reality of life and love.
The movie reminds its audience how life gets in the way of our fantasies and how important it is to be realistic in your career and in your love life. We find loves along the way to help us find parts in ourselves that sometimes we can not see. Friendships and relationships are made to help us grow, and it is up to us to be thankful for those who help us do so - even if they are not meant to be in our lives forever.
