The Reality of Social Confinement

What will you allow to define who you are?

I feel as though some people go out of their way to find something to be offended by.

Last year, people were offended by Starbucks Red cups, assuming that they were symbolic of the Devil and that they lost their "holiday glow" because no one could find the spirit of Christmas and Christ in a red cup.

Again, this is about a cup at a store that has no religious background and the only way I know that is because my friend works there. This years offender is Starbucks (limited supply) green cups that have the tracings of people, drawn with just one line. I believe the cup represents unity and the companionship others can supply us, joining together and becoming one.

Of course, some people either:

a) understand it

b) disagree with it

or

c) are just plain ignorant

Obviously I am not going to focus on a damn cup for my article, that would be ridiculous saying that it irritates me each time it is brought up.

This is a reflection on humanity and the traits that we have developed over time. This article is meant to reveal to the public the truth behind our anger, greed, ignorance of certain subjects, etc. When it comes to topics like "Thin Blue Line" and "Black Lives Matter", your walking on a thin line. This topic is sensitive, especially with the horrific accidents that have been occurring, whether it be innocent black lives that are taken or cops lives that are being taken.

Look, we live in a corrupt and shattered society. We can paint someone one way and fictionalize who they are as they sit and live in the reality we create for them.

We get upset when someone does not have the same view as you on the matter and we assume they just have no idea what is occurring.

We allow our ignorance and pride to shape the way we view the world around us.

We take what we see on television about one class, gender, race and religion and confine each person that fits that characteristic and to fit how we view them. Not only how we view them, but how media views them. If they do not fit into the structure we have designed for them and even dare to break out of their confinement, we get offended and angered by the fact that they would dare to even try and break free from the chains we forced them into.

I feel as if some people will never really understand that humanity is full of differences that we thrive on. It is beautiful when different cultures intertwine with one another. It is beautiful when we allow differences to influence a new and positive way of thinking and living. Stop finding things to hate about someone/something else that you do not agree with.

A note to all:

make sure you never breathe, talk, blink, walk, run, sigh, scratch or honestly do anything that is human. Someone will find your existence offensive.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
