Things aren't always what they seem to be. People often use the phrase, "Don't judge a book by its cover." I, for one, believe that my outer appearance doesn't reflect who I am on the inside. I may seem sheltered and quiet to my peers at school, but I feel as if I am a ball of energy, just waiting to be let out. My fiancé and I were talking the other night, and he brought up a very important question; Could a hot dog be considered a sandwich? Now, a normal person would just say they don't know and move on. I, not being a normal person, started thinking. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, is it a duck? Or could it be a goose? After all, geese are birds just the same. They have webbed feet and make similar noises. Most of the time, they are colored similarly. Could foods be compared in the same way? If you just look at something from a different perspective, it makes you question everything. So here I have for you a list of foods that you shouldn't "judge by their cover"
1. Cereal or cold breakfast soup?
All soup really is is a broth with particles floating inside it. Normally, though not served cold, soup is scooped up with a spoon. In this example, the milk is the broth and the cheerios are the floating particles. Who said it couldn't be a breakfast soup?
2. Folded half sandwich or bread taco?
A taco; meats and assorted toppings folded into a soft tortilla shell. If you think about it that way, you are still folding meats and assorted toppings in a "shell". Just a bread shell.
3. Muffin or just a cupcake without frosting?
A muffin is a pastry, often filled with sweet treats such as chocolate chips or fruit. Shaped the same, cupcakes are pastries that either have sweet treats spread on top or are baked into the batter. The only real difference is the frosting on top of the cupcake. If you put frosting on top of the muffin, wouldn't you reach the same goal?
4. Sushi or just a mini fishy burrito?
A burrito is a roll filled with assorted fillings. A sushi roll is just a miniature roll filled with assorted fillings. They may be wrapped with two different things, but couldn't they be considered the same thing, just from different ethnic backgrounds?
5. Grilled cheese or a fluffy quesadilla?
Here, we have a flatbread grilled cheese. Grilled cheese constitutes a piece (or pieces) of cheese, grilled in between a piece of bread with butter on the outside. Quesadillas are the same, but with a different kind of bread, just as we see with the flatbread sandwich.
6. Cookie cake or just a big cookie?
You see a cookie cake, I see a baker attempting to win the world record for the biggest cookie with a little frosting on the side.
7. Hot dog or sandwich?
Lastly, the question of the hour. Could a hot dog be considered a sandwich? (Thanks a lot, Joe.) Both have meat in the center, both have bread, both have assorted toppings. I'd definitely say yes, and chalk this up as a win.
