St. Augustine once said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” Being an avid traveler, I believe this saying rings true in many ways. For as long as I can remember, my family and I have traveled, and my passion for seeing new places has only continued to grow.

Traveling has given me the opportunity to not only see new places, but to meet new people and have unique experiences as well. It’s made me more well-rounded and more understanding of different cultures. Traveling has many benefits and I’ve decided to compile a list of some of these pros to taking a trip. And so, without further ado, here is my list of reasons to travel.

1. You meet people from all walks of life.

Whenever you go to a new place, you’re bound to meet from other parts of the country, or even other parts of the world. While it’s possible to still meet people from other places in your hometown, going to new places will allow to really have the opportunity to meet even more people. You will then be able to interact with people you otherwise might not have gotten the chance to meet otherwise.

2. Traveling allows you to move outside your comfort zone.

This especially applies when going to a foreign country, but can apply anywhere to an extent. Any time you are in a new environment surrounded by unfamiliar people, you are going outside the norm of what you are used to. However, this is so important during this time in our lives when we’re still learning about ourselves and what’s truly important to us. Besides, what’s life without getting outside your comfort zone and having an adventure?

3. The chance to make unforgettable memories.

Think back to some of your favorite memories. Did any of them occur while on vacation? Traveling allows you to participate in things that you might not be able to at home. Whether this activity is going to a new museum or something extreme like skydiving, going someplace new will allow you to make new memories it’s likely you’ll never forget.

4. Traveling makes you more understanding of other cultures.

Having the opportunity to see how other people live will make you more aware of how different some cultures are compared to your own. It’s easy to get caught up in our own way of life and traveling will expose you to how different we all really are. By being aware of these cultures, you become acquainted with other ways of living, and as a result, will become more understanding and tolerant of these other cultures.

5. And you will become a more well-rounded, diversified person as a result

Whenever you are exposed to how others live, you learn that the world is a large place with many different types of people. Our differences are what make us great, and seeing firsthand how others live their lives will help you to become more knowledgeable about the world around you. This, in turn, has the possibility of increasing acceptance for those who are different from you.

6. Taking risks is healthy.

While it might seem like traveling is risk-free, this isn’t always the case. Every time you travel, there are risks involved due to that fact you’re putting yourself in an unfamiliar place. However, risks are what make life interesting. They can also make for great stories in the future. Without taking risks, your life will always be safe and predictable, and what’s the fun in that?

7. Your views will be challenged, but it will only strengthen your beliefs in the long run.

Whenever you have lived in a place where everyone believes the same things, it’s easy to get caught up in the illusion that people everywhere also believe this as well. However, this is not the case. When you travel, you realize this very quickly when you are surrounded by those that have different beliefs. Whenever you become the minority in your beliefs, you come to find how strong these beliefs truly are, or aren’t.

The next time you’re debating whether or not to take that trip, whether it’s a trip to the beach or a trip abroad, think about all the positive reasons to go. You’ll not only have an adventure, but you might learn a thing or two about yourself along the way. The world is truly your oyster. Go out and explore it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
