Over the years sex has proven to have several benefits for one’s well-being. It has helped improve mood, balance hormones, lessen pain with our bodies, and also reduce blood pressure, which is associated with weight loss and burning of calories. But we never actually research about the inactivity of sex.

Like what happens to our body when we stop having sex? What happens to our moods, hormones, and blood pressure? Is it beneficial?

The answers aren’t really straightforward for and question about sex. However, there are pros and cons on the void of sexual expressions in physical intercourse. It can be surprising once we lay out the pros and cons of not having sex. Here are some that I thought of.

Pros:

Protected from diseases

When we abstain from sex, it is the only way one can completely prevent exposing ourselves to STDs or contracting it. Using a condom only reduces the percentage, but isn’t a full guarantee of not being exposed to an STD. Certain STDs are passed through skin-to-skin contact, so the only way we can ensure that we never are exposed to this is by abstaining from sex or practicing solo sex.

Intimacy with others

When a person refrains from sex, it holds an emphasis on the greatest aspect of a relationship, intimacy. Instead of connection through a physical level, abstaining from sex can focus on a deeper connection with a person on a conscious and spiritual level. It is a deepening of a bond that will add to the romance in the relationship. This is a very positive thing when it comes to relationships.

It helps a person learn the likes and dislikes of a person through observation. You spend time close together, you become aware of their body language during conversations and interactions, and you also discover his/her emotional triggers. These are all things that can be learned through intimacy rather than sex.

Cons:

Weak genitals over time

Well if you don’t use it, you lose it. A common question that pops up is. “Will my penis shrink if I’m not having sex?,” and the answer is probably. Without the so-call practice, you weaken the muscles and tissues of the genitals. If you are planning to abstain from sex, for women, kegel exercises are your friends and for men also. Men can use kegel exercises to strengthen penile muscles and clinch the prostate gland to keep it in a healthy state.

Sexual repression

When you repress sexual energy, it can become discomforting, irritable and unbalancing for your hormones. Sexual energy is very powerful and if not transmuted correctly, it can stressful. We can use meditation on this energy. We can recycle energy and use it in a positive way. It can heal you internally. Sexual energy gives life to our organs and system in our bodies. However, we need to learn how to meditate properly in order to recycle and use the energy as a healing property of sexual energy. Like the monks, they use sexual energy into life force energy.

As you may see, there are pros and cons, but it is important to take into account your overall health. Through dedication, abstaining from sex can bring beneficial things into your life, just as long as you can remember to be physically and sexually fit.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
