The Pros And Cons Of Graduating This Semester
Washington Weekly News

Most people can agree that graduating from college is bittersweet. Everyone handles it differently. Some are so sad they could cry if they think about it too much and others just want out already. College is a very unique time in your life, it is the only time when partying and doing absolutely nothing is completely acceptable. As you prepare to enter the real world there are going to be pros and cons. Here are a few ways to think about your upcoming graduation:

Pro: No More Debt

This one is a given. We no longer have to sink deeper and deeper into the student debt, but we do have to deal with them. Student debt is something we've ignored for the past four years and now we have to face it. College is without a doubt the most expensive education we have ever received but it was worth it for the experience. It's comforting to know that we aren't adding to the thousands we've already racked up.

Con: Moving Back in With The Parents

The single most depressing part of returning home after graduation. You love your mom and dad but lets be real, they know how to get on your nerves. After four years of freedom, your back with the rents and it feels just like high school. All of the sudden, they're calling you all of the time and wondering why you're out so late. Getting drunk and making food in the kitchen on the weekends just got much quieter.

Pro: You Finally Get to Make Your Own Money

It's really exciting that you get to make your own money and become financially independent. If you're lucky enough to land a decent job after graduation, you get the chance to make your own money and buy whatever you want. Especially if you're living at home with mom and dad, you're saving money and making more money than you ever have before. Your first car, first apartment, you name it and now you can buy your very own.

Con: You Have to Spend The Money You Make

Unfortunately, when it comes to making your own money, you also have new responsibilities. "responsibilities" is almost a foreign word to you after the past four years but here it is. These responsibilities include student loans, cell phone bills, car bills and so much more. This is unexciting (to say the least) but at least you're successfully "adulting" now.

Pro: You Start Thinking About Your Health

Apparently, people in the "real world" do not normally eat ramen every night nor do they drink ridiculous amounts of alcohol on the weekends. Instead of hangovers, you're going to the gym and making real dinners. You're feeling great and losing all of the college weight.

Con: No More Excuses For Drinking So Much

Going out during the week with the squad just doesn't happen anymore. Technically, a large portion of college students are considered alcoholics. Also, drinking during weekdays just does not happen anymore. College is the only time when it is acceptable for "turn up Tuesdays". Sorry, guys.

Pro: You Just Don't Give a S**t Anymore

You're going to class in the clothes from the night before or your best "grout fit". You know better than to wear a dress out in the middle of winter and to bring out a coat when it's 30 degrees. You're saying and doing whatever you want because (chances are) you won't see most of these people ever again. Appreciate your last semester and do what you want.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
