Here we go- every time I sit down at my computer to write an article I know is going to be controversial I cringe. I cringe because of the backlash I am going to get from people who disagree with me, I cringe because of the mean and hateful comments I am going to receive for my "left wing ideals" and I cringe because I Do. Not. Want. To. Offend. Anyone- and THAT'S the problem with Tomi Lahren. She doesn't care.
Tomi Lahren, or as I would call her, self proclaimed god of the republican party, is a talk show commentator (The Blaze) who has a segment called "Final Thoughts" that gets everyone and their mother all up in arms about the words she spews. I'm outspoken, I don't hold back and if I have something I would like to say, you're sure as hell going to know about it, but the difference in when I have something to say and when Tomi Lahren has something to say is I acknowledge and respect the other side- she does not.
Tomi Lahren exerts her white privilege and masks the ideal of it by saying 'these are my thoughts- feel free to disagree" and yes, I disagree. I disagree with how you lump all democrats together- never giving any validity to the other side. Apparently if you are not a right winged flaming conservative, you have no part in being an active member of society. You lump all "black people" in together in almost all of your videos when you make blanketing statements. You made one of your latest "final thoughts" bashing Hillary Clinton (Shocker) about how she talked about white privilege. News Flash Tomi- you bash Hillary for talking for all white people when it reality she is just talking from the other side of the fence, the other side you refuse to see. You sit on your high horse and peach about how white privilege isn't real, just because you are denying you have it does not mean it doesn't exist.
Upon posting a status expressing my disapproval of Tomi, a former classmate said to me "I'm pretty sure you're white and middle class as well. Are you forgetting about your white privilege"? And here's my answer- No I'm not. I'm aware I have privilege and I'm aware I'm white and sometimes I'm downright ashamed of it. I'm ashamed I will never understand or be able to change what black people go through on a daily basis. I'm ashamed that we- as two races- cannot get along and constantly love to point fingers at the other side as Tomi does so frequently. I'm ashamed we have figure heads such as Tomi Lahren that sit on their high horse and fill the heads of young, impressionable kids that they don't need to try to understand what the other side is going through. So yes, I may be white, and I may be "middle class" and I may have white privilege, but I'm not proud of it as Miss Tomi Lahren is- I'm downright ashamed.
I disagree with Tomi when she bashes Hillary Clinton yet poses NO real other side to anything. As she sits at her desk and throws dig after dig at the presumptive future president, she has no ground to stand on or strong alternative. Here's some food for thought, if you are going to consistently and harshly bash someone, have an alternative, have something they can do better- don't throw stones just to throw them. When Tomi constantly bashes black celebrities for voicing their opinion on the race they are apart of, does she not realize she is doing the same thing? You, Tomi, are a WHITE celebrity voicing YOUR thoughts that DO NOT bring together races, but slash a huge line down the middle- do you not see that?
Realizing there is a problem is the first step to changing something and Tomi does none of that. She does not realize there is a problem with women in America. Or realize that blacks are treated worse, or the double standard is a real thing and that black males feel threatened because she experiences none of this first hand.
I'm not here to bash Tomi, because yes, everyone deserves to have their voice heard. If she truly believes these things then her the same as everyone else should be able to spew their thoughts to any audience who will listen. What I am here to do is voice what's wrong with the way Tomi expresses herself. Instead of bettering her argument, she raises her voice. Instead of listening to the other side and realizing there might be some validity there, she writes them off as "brainless" and instead of ever sitting back for two moments and letting the marginalized, the lower classes, the people who truly need help in America speak, she silences them with her words of uncaring tone and lack of empathy. That's exactly what's wrong with America, and Tomi Lahren only amplifies it.
But those are my final thoughts, feel free to disagree. Am I Right?
