The Power of Distractions

Don't fall for the distractions away from the Trump/Russia connections

The Power of Distractions
The Daily Beast

Let me start by saying that I'm a big Kathy Griffin fan. I've watched her since she was on "Suddenly Susan". For anyone under the age of 20, that was a television show from the 90's that we used to watch on a big box in the living room. I've seen her do stand-up a couple of times. Even though I am a huge fan, what she did in that photo was completely inappropriate. Just as it was inappropriate for the conservatives to make models of President Obama being lynched in a tree. It is inappropriate to mock the death of a President, no matter how illegitimate you think that President is. With that being said, it is just a distraction. A much-needed distraction that Trump needed to get the American people's minds off of the investigation into his collusion with Russia. It's also a distraction away from our declining relationships with European countries.

While Trump and company were away, it was leaked to the press that Jared Kushner, Senior Advisor to the President and his son-in-law, had secret meetings with the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and wanted to set up a "back channel" to get in touch with the Kremlin. This was before Trump was sworn in as President. According to sources, Kushner and former NSA director Michael Flynn sat in on these meetings, which took place at Trump Tower during the transition. It has already been known that Flynn discussed lifting sanctions against the Russians. This has been backed up by sworn testimonies given by former FBI Director James Comey and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates. So why was Jared Kushner sitting in on these meetings? Secondly, why are we still uncovering hidden, secret communication with the Russians? Why is this administration trying to hide these communications if there is nothing illegal?

Next, while Trump was making his way through the Middle East and giving the Saudis$110 million in weapons, he stopped through Europe to degrade and literally shove those leaders around. At a memorial for 9/11 with the other members of NATO, Trump talked to these leaders like they were my high school basketball teacher telling me why we didn't win the game. Calling all of them out because they need to "pay their fair share" if they want to stay a part of NATO. Did I mention this was a memorial for 9/11? You remember? The 9/11 that was mainly funded by the Saudi Arabian government? In the weeks since European leaders have called him out and have basically written America off as a red-headed step-child, or in this case, an orange headed step-child. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the newly appointed President of France being the key players taking turns against Trump. Yeah, that’s right, Germany is actually the one on the right side this time. Now he has pulled us out of the Paris Agreement which was a huge historical program to combat climate change. And don't be fooled. He isn't doing this to protect coal jobs. He is doing this because it was a signature moment in Barack Obama's presidency.

Kathy Griffin is an advocate for women and the LGBT community. She is also a comedian. She went overseas to perform for troops in Afghanistan and Iraq when most others would not. It’s a sad state when people are more concerned with what a comedian does with her time than what the President is doing at home and around the world that will eventually put us all in real physical danger. I urge everyone to not get distracted by the road blocks this administration tries to put in the way. Keep watching what they are doing. Call your Congressperson or Senators Make sure they know that the majority of America is not in favor of this President or what his team is trying to do with this country. The majority of us voted for something else anyway. Resist.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
